Accurate sizing of small wooden pieces

Postby Sojourner » Sun Nov 22, 2015 4:28 pm

A simple method of producing small sections of timber: ship's planking,gratings/whatever.
A refinement of the basic shooting board - add a sliding fence, and repeat sections can be produced, within a few thousands of an inch. In fact I use this to make any width parallel piece of wood, up to the limit of the slots - about 150mm for my board.
Just cut 2 slots in the fence, add bolts and wing nuts, and any dimension can be set so that the planed section is to precise size. You do need a good sharp smoothing plane...
I hope that makes sense, the pics should amplify...
