It's official, I'm all in for this:

https://youtu.be/cPUBPcTk088

(Weird, I can't seem to embed the video)

Here's the official website:

http://www.tank74.jp/home.html

Check out that display case with the rollers-totally awesome. I think it's only a bonus for suscribers, so I can't get it. I don't have a single issue yet, but the first few will be on their way. 100 issues within two years...welp here's to first steps!

Try embedding the Youtube video again. I have to enable the permission on the forum to allow that. As I have to do it individually for each forum, it would take forever to do the whole forum, and there aren't many videos posted.

Thanks for the heads up, royjess. I actually did follow those instructions but it's still a no-go. It's not a big deal, the videos can be accessed on the linked website.

It's time to finally start this thing.

001
The journey of a hundred steps begins with the turret barrel. It's nice of them to provide a screwdriver, but it's too small for my hand:
20210216_214317.jpg
20210216_214317.jpg (490.11 KiB) Viewed 2899 times

A couple of barrel cozy parts finished this issue. Forgive me, my knowledge of tank parts is rudimentary, so barrel cozies they shall be. Please feel free to enlighten me as I progress :D :

20210216_215006.jpg (327.15 KiB) Viewed 2899 times

002
A no build issue, just the turret top itself. It's the size of a plate:
20210216_220720.jpg
20210216_220720.jpg (439.64 KiB) Viewed 2899 times

003
Pieces for the turret hatch, metal parts for a machine gun, and more barrel cozies are in this issue:
20210216_221903.jpg
20210216_221903.jpg (170.28 KiB) Viewed 2898 times

Regarding the clear parts that line the edge of the hatch; the instructions say they are labeled as L and R for left and right. This is false. Nowhere on the packaging or the parts themselves are they labeled as such. I had to figure out where each clear part went based on the fit and matched it up to the illustrations as best I could. They fitted loosely, so a little dab of glue was used for each piece:
20210216_224542.jpg
20210216_224542.jpg (177.01 KiB) Viewed 2898 times

More detailing was added to the hatch:
20210216_230123.jpg
20210216_230123.jpg (95.71 KiB) Viewed 2898 times

The hatch was secured onto the turret top:
20210216_231437.jpg

More detail was added to the main barrel:

004
Parts from 003 and this issue combined for the commander's machine gun:
20210217_011548.jpg
20210217_011548.jpg (387.78 KiB) Viewed 2889 times

There a few pieces here that are quite fragile. To make matters worse, a couple of them already had stress marks fresh out of the box, like the machine gun crank and rear sights. The completed gun was mounted onto the turret:
20210217_022100.jpg
20210217_022100.jpg (213.14 KiB) Viewed 2889 times

005
Periscope and hatch parts for the turret are in this issue:
20210217_185816.jpg
20210217_185816.jpg (356.26 KiB) Viewed 2863 times

A tiny handle from #003 was used for the new hatch. I had quite a time tightening a teeny nut for the new hatch. It didn't help the bolt doesn't have any tooling on the head so a driver could be used.
20210217_194325.jpg
20210217_194325.jpg (271.61 KiB) Viewed 2863 times

006
More tiny parts for the turret and main gun are here. Also more barrel cozies:
20210217_201041.jpg
20210217_201041.jpg (390.14 KiB) Viewed 2859 times

More handles and other bits were glued onto the turret. The underside of one of the hatches got some interior detailing:
20210217_211500.jpg

007
Smoke canister launcher parts and more turret detailing for this step:
20210217_214927.jpg
20210217_214927.jpg (347.78 KiB) Viewed 2857 times

There is a misprint in the instructions when assembling the right launcher; parts 07-10 and 07-08 have to switch positions, otherwise the launcher is gonna look real wonky. To clarify, I made an annotation in the photo below:
20210217_221951.jpg
20210217_221951.jpg (253.38 KiB) Viewed 2857 times

The launcher should end up looking like this:
20210217_224132.jpg
20210217_224132.jpg (53.46 KiB) Viewed 2857 times

Winch loops, a spare barrel, and interior detailing to the commander's hatch were all added to the turret. Leftover parts will be present:

Yes, the camo paint has been done well so far. It makes me want to touch up the small parts later on. At the very least, it would cover up the stress marks.

008
This step added a cargo rack and the other smoke canister launcher:

It wasn't obvious to me, but there were sheets of protective film on both sides of the rectangular lens that needed removal before installation. A toggle switch below the light opens internal shutters when flipped on. I have no batteries, so I can't test the light just yet:

013
This step has a central piece for the turret base and some rigging for the turret top:

Ammo box construction in this step, nothing too wild:

20210218_233338.jpg (236.13 KiB) Viewed 2824 times

One sprue of parts was left over. Cargo racks from 007 and 008, plus the ammo boxes from 011 and 013, were used to fill in more holes on the turret:
20210218_235434.jpg
20210218_235434.jpg (340.34 KiB) Viewed 2824 times

I'm not liking the idea of using rubber bands to secure those ammo boxes. It doesn't seem like a durable method to me, but I'll worry about it when they break.

The first motor!

LED assemblies using parts left over from 019, 020, and 025 will come together in this step. These new parts weren't even touched:

035
A no build issue, just a piece of the inner frame, and a storage box:

036
The matching half of the frame piece from 035, and the contents of the long box from 035:

I still don't know what those poles are for. My translation app says they are "wash poles":

The inner frame for the rear of the tank comes together:

More frame pieces:

The rear of the tank takes form. I had almost forgotten how big a 1/16 scale tank can be:

Some intricate mesh pieces on these new parts:

Rear vents were assembled and a few parts were left over:

039
Another metal panel for the rear and detail pieces:

One of the completed vents from 038 and detail pieces were glued onto the panel. The panel was then screwed onto the inner frame:

I got a little overzealous in driving the screws and stripped one of the threads. I also inadvertently broke one of those hand grip parts while securing the panel onto the frame. Lesson learned: secure the panels first, then add the detail. Also, do not overtighten screws.

Most of these parts mirror the ones in 039:

No mishaps this time when I added all the detail pieces:

Another metal panel, mesh sheets, and the exhaust pipe:

The metal panel got scuffed and scratched by the mesh sheets during transport :( . If I was building say a Ferrari F40, yeah, I'd be scrambling for a replacement issue, but I'll let the damage slide for a tank. The mesh sheets were left over for later:

042
Similar parts to the ones in 041, but now for the right side:

I'm running out of good hand hold spots with every panel I add:

I had to make sure the mesh sheets from 041 and 042 and the new vent slats match with the camo pattern:

Those tiny hand grip loops from 039 and 040 were used to fill in the holes in the new center piece:

Once the panels were attached to the frame, the exhaust pipes from 041 and 042 were placed on both sides. As luck would have it, the scuffs and scratches I complained about in 041 were covered up by the exhaust pipe:

The last piece of the puzzle for the hull top and some VERY pesky detailing:

I attached the top panel first before gluing all the tiny bits despite what the instructions said. Some of the left over parts from 039 and 040 were used:

This step was a PITA. It hurts knowing I'll have to do it again for the other side. :|

The rear panel of the tank plus more detailing parts:

I guess it wasn't so bad the second time around:

Optical cables plus detailing parts for the rear of the tank are in this issue. Many of the parts were left over for later:

A telephone box was assembled:

And that's all I got for now, I gotta wait for another shipment of parts. I'm essentially at the midpoint for the run, and it does look like I have half a tank thus far:

More turret rotation parts were given here, but in this step, more detailing was done for the rear panel:
