Hi Mark,

I am just wondering that if you go for guitar stings to do the rail mod .....

That you just might end up with "Ernie Balls" (No Bring Me Sunshine included) ........   :laughing-rolling:

For all of a faint hearted, please don't look at the Pic below as these can be very nasty, though you will have to Guage this for yourselves......!!!!!

I see I'm getting left behind in this competition ! I have made a little progress.

I've airbrushed the decks. These were just done on the runners. The decks are an odd colour of two parts dark blue, one part hull red. I'm hoping that I can get away with spraying the sides of the hull and superstructure by pointing the airbrush at the right angle so the parts mask themselves. Then hopefully it will need nothing more than a slight touch up with a brush. I can hear Mr Murphy walking down the garden path though :laughing-rolling:

I've also glued the parts of the funnel together as they are all painted the same colour.

Image

So far so good - everything seems to fit very well, it's just all very very small !
Cheers

On second thoughts, looking at the position of the car, and the car in front with the bonnet misplaced, it looks like they had a bit of a coming together, so he probably got half of it down the back of his neck :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

After that amusing diversion........ a slightly more controlled paint job.

The hull was sprayed at an angle of 30-40 degrees below the deck. This seems to have worked a treat. There is no overspray on the deck at all :D
The darker line you can see is a shadow. The hull side is all one colour (for now !!)

Image

It doesn't show up so well on this photo, but the same trick worked on the superstructure parts. You just need to keep the spray light.

Here is the foredeck and funnel glued in place.

next up, painting the camo pattern on the hull are various parts of superstructure.

Thanks Paul.

Sadly I'm not going to get time to try fitting hand rails, even though Paul was kind enough to send me some used guitar strings. Sorry Paul, but I've just got too much on at work this month.

Anyway, back to the model. This ship has a fairly involved camo scheme, which is prolonging the painting process.

First of all, the scheme is marked on the base colour in pencil. The superstructure is just dry assembled at the moment.

Image

Next, it's painted with a fine brush. It took two coats to give an even finish. Even so, it's still got a few brush marks in it. Now I remember why I prefer spraying things !!

Hi Mark,

That's a nice tip with pencilling out the camo - as I don't normally do military planes or vehicles I'm all a real total novice on it all    .......

Hum  could all of the above be a challenge for me on next years Xmas Comp ....... :) :) :)
