Don't let the title fool you :laughing-rolling:
This will be a Horten 229 but, not as you thought it captain :laughing-rolling:
Just had a brilliant day and while my mood is good thought it would be a good idea to start my next Christmas build. When I mean start!, it was just to start the thread, not the build of the kit, no doubt I will have led at least one member astray posting about a Horten :angry-banghead:
I beg forgiveness now before I dig my hole much deeper....Just hoping I have enough time to get this kit built in time to qualify as a Christmas build, the competition this time around is exceptionally good (as have previous ones'). I have to say Paul has managed to attract some very good entries again this time round and the competition has some fierce entries. This build will be straight from the box, and at this stage I cant decide to whether to go wheels up or wheels down? as I think it will make a great display with the Arado as a bomber in flight with escort??
I'll leave it at that for this update and hope I can get back with a worthwhile update soon?
Happy Christmas everyone, and a fruitful New Year, Steve..

No double Paul! There's a fighter and a bomber and I am attempting the fighter seeing that there are a couple of the larger scale builds on view at the moment. I have had a little session at this over the last few days and have posted my progress below.
ImageImage
I don't know how wise the choice of a black primer will be on this kit? only time will tell!.
ImageImage
Some nice bits of molded detail with this kit and absolutely no flash!!, the strap detail on the seat has come out quite well. The colour scheme seems to contradict what I have seen other members doing over here but, I just go with what I'm told/read, so long as it looks acceptable that will do me
This shouldn't take too long :shifty:
Cheers, Steve..

I know there's no rush to get this built! but I am beginning to enjoy this little model, it's got quite a lot of character and a surprising amount of detail for something in this scale. I also took delivery of my brand new (new tool) Airfix Dornier 17z kit this morning. Got itchy fingers now ready to have a go at that sometime very soon, may even go for a few after market extras if they become available? in the meantime?
ImageImage
Not a lot added really :laughing-rolling: just trying to keep all my builds and photos in some sort of order? I have a very untidy mind and an awfully messy workbench :o or is that the other way around :?:
Happy New Year everyone.................I'll be back next year with another exclusive addition to my tiny little build

steve the build is fine so far, the pictures might need some improvement or we won't be able to judge your work properly

baby_astons, I don't know why some of my photos look so bad? I know I only have a cheapish camera and for some of the time the photos turn out quite well. I have done a little more and posted my progress below with photos of varying and dubious quality. I can say that these photos are "Exclusive" to this site though
ImageImage
This thing would have packed a punch if it ever saw active service, the cannons are enormous, virtually the full length of the fuselage!
ImageImage
Nearly ready for the wings now! A bit of remedial work was needed to wipe away some gluey fingerprints I had managed to add whilst gluing the nose on :superlglue: :superlglue: :shifty:
Cheers, Steve..

Hi Steve,

It's really nice to see all the extra effort and detailing you are putting in on this kit :D :D , especially as originally you thought it would be a relatively easy/quick one to do - famous last words !!! :) :)

Thanks for the comments Paul! I stand by my original statement about this being a quick build :laughing-rolling: I am going to blkame the Christmas New Year period for interfering with my model making time :shifty:
The gun detail has now been enclosed forever within the fuselage never to see the light of day again :( , but at least I know its in there..........
ImageImage
The wings are on and another light coat of Chaos Black has been wafted over the build!
ImageImage
I have opted for the two tone grey colour scheme rather than the green and brown one!
Back soon with another update, Steve..

Hi Steve,

The wings are looking really great and a very subtle blend of all coming in :D :D :D

NB (Note) to me...... Take the spraying lightly !!!!

Done a bit more to this.

ImageImage
The two tone splinter pattern and the blue/grey underside have been airbrushed as the build instruction direct, a coat of gloss varnish went on next.
ImageImage
The upper surfaces have had a very light wash of dark brown and the decals are now all sealed with a coat of matt varnish, the underside will receive a similar treatment next.
Regards, Steve..

Hi Steve,

This is coming on very nicely and love the spray job you've done :D :D :D

Also the matt varnish has created a lot better finish

As an aside, it's interesting that on this they used a lot straighter edges on the different camo colours - I'm sure someone can explain why to me. :) :)

Thanks for the comments chaps!!
As for the camouflage, its just a standard splinter pattern! most of the WWII Luftwaffe kits I've done have a splinter pattern and sometimes some smoke rings, blotches and even the random squiggles I did on my Heinkel were done over a standard splinter. A bit more has been done to the underside of this one as the photos will show.

ImageImage
The yellow nose flourish has been added, I had to do that by hand using citadel Sunburst Yellow paint! a bit brighter than German yellow but it looks alright?
ImageImage
The attachment of the undercarriage has started, I am attaching it piece-meal as there are lots of location points to glue and it looks like it will be easier gluing a bit at a time rather than having to manipulate a fragile assembly? Should have this done in the next session.
Regards, Steve..
