Paul’s Shelby Mustang GT-500

Postby Paul » Fri Jan 15, 2016 12:18 pm

Hi All,

Well with this now being available in the UK from De Agostini, I’ve finally decided to subscribe to this.

The e-mail confirmation quoted different prices to that on the website, so I called De-Ag’s customer service earlier.

What with an off shore call centre and not a very good phone line, I ended being cut off, so not a very good start!

Anyway, I’ve just sent an e-mail to their customer services in the hope of a better response. :) :)

Hi Chill,
Many thanks, and no I won't say a word!!!

I'm not too worried about the call centre as I've already worked out a worse case scenario re: monthly costs. :)

I haven't quite worked out how many are going to build the Mustang, but hopefully more than the GTR so that we can share a lot of build diaries on the forum. :D :D

Hi Ian,

After the DB5 and the GTR, I've learnt not to think too much about trying to doing any mods until you see the actual parts. :)

However, as Chill has said, then perhaps possibly a leather job and also Aussie style one for the carpets perhaps.... :)

With a leather job on the seats and door cards, then the above really depends on if they are a realistic option ...... :) :)

NB Chill - no springs on the seats as you said what "springs to mind"!!!! :) :)

A couple of Pics of issue 1 from the inside:

Nothing very difficult to assemble on this lot, saying that the instructions are good. :)

A few Pics of issue 1 from the front:

As John has said, I also would have preferred the bumper to have been metal rather than plastic.

There are some very slight blemishes/bubbles on the chrome of the bumper, though I’m hoping that when I receive the subscribed issue 1, then it might be better……! :)

you'll be quite unhappy if trying to leather the seats paul - they are made out of some kind of rubbery plastic -
and first of all have the right cheap shiny appearance as should be with cheaply leathered or vinyl-clad yank car seats -
so apart from the trouble with finding the proper glue I think I'd leave it just as it is - door cards would be ok to get them to look like the seats...

ah, and if done properly, you should open up the square recesses below the bumper - those were holes on the real car... ;)

Great to see your doing the Mustang Paul :D
I was really impressed with the first issue, nice parts and the paint colour looks great though I,m not keen on the chrome used for the window frames
I found the grill screws to be very tight and took ages to seat and stop the grill moving, a washer would be better here

Hi BA,

Many thanks for the advice on the seats, as they are rubbery plastic, then I'll certainly leave them alone. :) :)

I'll also remember about the door cards. :)

Hi Casp,
I didn't have a problem with the grille, though I did need to use a couple of different sized screwdrivers to fit the bumpers. :)

Hi BA,

Am I correct in that saying that you are referring to "1" on the pic below rather than "2".

Also, due to the nature of the paintwork on the body, how then could I hide where I've drilled out?

As I will have a spare one of these when I receive the first subscription, I can always give it a go!

Great to see more builds of this subscription; I'm in the US and it is not available here yet, but I am told it will be 'soon'- :? . As far as the seats go; you won't see much of them as the door windows are molded in the 'up' position- and if you have the car displayed in a case you won't be opening the doors much anyway- just my opinion.

Hi,

Many thanks for your comments, they are much appreciated. :D

In the light of not having any further advice from BA, I'm going to attempt to do both, incorrectly or not! :)

At £1.99 for the first issue, I'm not going to loose too much sleep if I mess up on this mod! :)
