Thanks Casper. I've no idea with regards to the answer about the glass question

Issue 9

With issue 9 you get a battery pack (Batteries not included) which holds 4 AA batteries and wire loom to connect up the the lights. Hey presto and all is working.

ImageRBTMFP1 Thur 5 March 15 2 by Roy Lee, on Flickr

You also get some black out tape to stick around the neck of the cockpit to stop any light emitting through the plastic.

Also you glue various plastic parts to the out side of the cockpit tunnel.

ImageRBTMFP1 Thur 5 March 15 4 by Roy Lee, on Flickr

There are plenty of plastic parts left over and awaiting future issues to explain how to fit these.

it's downing on me that they'll leave the normally blue lit ribbed part behind the cockpit a simple solid wall -
mine is vanishing on the airfix 1:66 model, can't leave it like that, really...

This issue came with the nose cone. The windows are not correct. The sides either need to be slightly higher or the front ones need to be lower. The front windows shouldn't be inline with the side ones.

Also some control levers and the over head panel with stick on decor to represent more lights switches etc...

I've done some studying off photos on the cockpit windows, the front windows look correct. The issue is with the side lower shelf it's at the wrong angle and should be slightly high at the front, this would then correct the alinement issue.

This could be sorted out by adding some plastcard along the lower edge of the window and the sanding the rear section down to correct the angle. But until we get the window sections I would leave this.

You can see it more in R2D2 image of the side of the cockpit photo on his build the front of the side window should be higher and more of a straight angle from the rear point of the window.

That is correct and DeAgostini is aware of this and we are currently awaiting further news with regards this. They could be issuing a retooled cockpit or the worse comes to the worse, either some plastic card or when the glass is in place, just paint a small section of the class to look like the side.

That will be interesting to see what they do, I can't believe that were only 9 or 10 issues in and there has been so many issue already.

I thought that having the guy on board that helped with the rerelease that these kind of problems should not have happened, I'm just wondering how many more problem we will come across before its finished. This is poor from DeA.

Hi Roy :)
back lighting works really well.
Are there any recesses on the inner edge of the cockpit for the window panes. :)

I personally can't see any ridges on the inside of the cockpit frames for glass. I presume the glass will be molded in one piece.

Issue 10

The hall tunnel has detail added to it and the wall has some plastic detail on sprues which are painted and glue in place.

ImageRBTMFP1 Mon 9 March 15 1 by Roy Lee, on Flickr

If you take a closer look, I've mod the seating by removing the end backs and replaced with a small plastic strip to edge it with.

Thanks John.

I've done a little bit more to the seating. I removed more of the backs and added detailing to the grey edging that I applied.

I've got some really big plans for this build.

Lighting: I've decided to fit fiber optics to this build as well as additional LED's. I've parts on order. Fiber optics in the cockpit, behind the seating in the main hall and also on the navigation control board. I'll be building circuits to allow the lights to chase on the navigation board and also the use of variable resistors to control the brightness. I'm also planning to make a working light to replace the static one in-between the sleeping pod and seating.

Upgrades: I've just had a delivery from Shapeways, there are a couple of people selling there designs. I'm very impressed with the designs by TonyRR. I'll be purchasing more of these where I feel that they would make an improvement to the build.

The items are yet to be painted and the floor grills needs to be fitted into the floor.

Painting: As far as the painting is concern, I'm currently sticking with the instructions of the build as I believe that they are going to give some good advice.

Hi Roy! Your internal bits sure are coming along! I like the additional parts although I could never afford them! I might have to build them myself! Havent got round to fixing the internal pipes yet! Yours are looking pretty good! I also like the R2D2! Was this from one of your toy sets and repainted?

Thanks Kim, yes these have really burnt a hole in my pocket, but considering that we are only 11 issue in and the model has been advertised as the most detailed model ever produced :liar: it's a bit concerning that lots of after market upgrades are already on the market.

Jess is paying for the subscription for me and she won't let me pay for it, so I don't mind forking out a bit of my personal money to upgrade this.

The main cost is the price of the printing plastic, I believe that the designers make a small profit margin.

Thanks John,

The R2 unit is from my Star Wars Millennium Falcon Command battle set. I've painted him, but yet to give him a coat of gloss. He is a tad too big, but TonyRR is going to design some of these for the shapeway site. But it is going to take him some time, starting with Han and then Chewy, but we have two years before the MF is complete.

I've just cut out a hole in the flooring and temporary fitted the 3D printed flooring. I need to order another set of flooring to complete it.

Ok my build is coming along slowly, but its not race and I intend to take one step at a time and make sure that I'm happy with the route I'm going.

Depending how the shapeways 3D parts come out will determine which route I go, do I mod what is supplied by DeAgostini or do I purchase these expensive but highly detailed 3D upgrades?

I've still need to order some more floor panels anyway. However I've added some support the my current flooring. The flooring not fixed in place yet.

I've painted the accessories and chairs and they look really good. I've also added some tubing to the chairs so that I can drill a hole in the flooring for these to slot in and be able to swivel.

The only one thing that I wasn't happy with and that was the chess board. I tired to drill holes in it to fit fiber optics, but the thing ended up splitting :angry-banghead: . So it looks like I'll be ordering another one of those.

Not too much going on with my build, I'm waiting for my late deliveries of the last 4 issues to arrive.

In the mean time, more 3D upgrade parts arrived today. These are so much better than the parts already provided.

The only thing is one of the part has only been half printed or broken off before dispatch, I've contacted shapeways regarding this and awaiting a reply.

Cockpit walls and new Dejarik table after I destroyed my last one drilling holes for fibre optics, this one already has fibre optics holes pre-drilled. Also more floor grills to finish off my floor.

I need to find some time to clean/de-wax the parts, paint and fit some LED/fiber optics, however there is no rush as we are yet to find out how much space we will have underneath the flooring to fit the LED's and also I need to make sure all LED's are accessible for servicing when the time arrives.

Thanks Casper

I've also made a light control unit from strip-boards, one will chase the lights and the other will adjust the brightness of the LED's.

Again, I will need to think where these will fit due to space and have access for servicing.

Finally my next delivery arrived almost a month late. This includes the Han Solo figure which is a lot bigger than I imagine. Looks like I'll need to build a display case for it. DeAgostini has promised that we will get another delivery at the end of this month to bring our subscriptions back up to date.

There is a lot for me to be getting on with now and should keep me busy for the next few weeks.
