Your rocket looks a bit like I was last Friday night - Piston broke !!

It's coming on nice a quickly, looking good too. Full marks for braving a yellow kit - I'd rather have a ton of etched parts to assemble that paint yellow !!
Cheers

I spent most of the evening adding detailing using copper wire and paper clips. It was intricate work

The front of the loco I fitted a copper pipe and using some plastic a fin at the topside

Image

The kit came with a two prong piston, but the real Rocket had three so I added a third by using a paperclip wire. I also added some levers and linkages using copper and paper clip. Copper wire was also use to add details below the loco as well as the rear structs

Image

Image

I also made a foot pedal which was linked to the wheels using copper wire.

Taking photos under artificial lighting don't do my model any justice, so I've taken more in natural day light. What a difference the photos make and as you can see the paint lines on the barrel is actually nice and neatly straight unlike how they came out under artificial lighting where they look uneven. The mods are also more visible.

In the next four photos, you can see further mods that I made today, I added brass pins to the top of the pistons housing and I extended the pipe on the right hand side of the loco which joins up with the water barrel. This pipe where it goes from the loco to the tender which would have been flexible was connected using heat shrink. I also used a superglue nozzle cut to size for the linkage to the wheels under the loco

I even made a small spade from some wire and the number tabs that you get with the kits to number the parts

Thanks Mike, are you going to enter the comp?

I've painted some of the copper wire and the added plastic. I also stuck the figures in place

The shovel that I made was painted and glued in the tender

Image

A hook which came with the kit was added to the rear tender

Image

The loco is now awaiting to be sealed with some clear varnish.

Some strips of wood was cut to size and glued to some card before I stained them a dark brown

There is also a couple of strips of plastruct waiting to be painted

Hello Roy, yes I am building an entry but I fear it won't be ready on time but there's a chance so I'll keep going and see.
Cheers Mike.

I'd forgotten just how small that kit is !! You're doing a lovely job Roy. The extra details really make the model special.
Cheers

You have done an amazing job of this little kit!

Even the 1:1 scale chocolates in the background look real :laughing-rolling:

I should have display a large "P" for product placement. Considering I love chocolate and I'm surprised that I've still half a box full left. Don't tell Jess that I've have these as I gone sugar free earlier this year ;) So I'm limiting myself to one a day each time I complete a little be more of the build :D

The plastruct was painted sliver to represent track rails, these were glued to the sleepers and I gave the loco several coats of gloss varnish followed by a satin finish

Thanks #1, I'm very pleased with this little gem at the moment. There was a method in my madness as the chocs was going to play a part in the build, but after some thinking, I've just come up with a plan B ;)

I'll keep you in suspense a little bit longer, plus the plan for the chocs is very much viable, but plan B will be better, so you might still see the plan for the chocs in action ;)

I added some ballast to my scratch built track.

Shush! :shhh: Don't tell Jess :shhh: but I used some of her bird grit to use as ballast, I laid it down dry and then fixed the bird grit in place using a water/PVA glue mix with a drop of washing up liquid which was applied using a pipette dropper
