[quote="chill"]Wow its looking amazing.

I think the U96 is now on the list of kits I should have got but didnt :angry-banghead:[/quote
I think you can still back order from issue 1. It is big in regards to the 1/72 scale Revell one, nearly double the length. I bet in the near future while building it there will all sorts of extras to purchase from other places, mainly PE frets or even a laser cut wooden deck. Also figurines as well. I know it is expensive but if you are living on a meager pension like me and others it is the only way to obtain something like that.

Hi Maximus your u boat is looking great. I think the strips are to make the 80 dividers that make the 40 slots per side just below the deck structure. I am going to make a jig out of wood and a g clamp as they are all identical about 10mm long. If I can I will post a picture so you can see what I mean. You could also have a look at this site http://www.u96-bauen.de/vorschau/ as it shows future issues and instructions but in german with pictures.

You could be rite there. Second planking, I am not so happy with the thickness of the planks for 1st and second layer, you will have so much sanding to do and it is easy to sand in to the plastic and you need filling. I got the deck planks left from the Black Pearl, because I used coffee stirrers, the just that little bit lower. Have tried and does look good against the plastic. Will think about it over the weekend after I finished the planking from issue 28.

I agree with you max but some of my areas will need 2nd layer. Think I'm going to risk sanding!!!

The all need second layer, but I will use for that the slightly thinner wood I did not use on Black Pearl. I only noticed that when I went on the german forum and it did not look well standing up that proud over the plastic bits. My preference and perhaps for others it will be better to stick with the instructions.

50 strips 1,5 x 5 x 180 mm and in 41 I think plywood panels with the holes for the flooding of the tanks cut out.
http://www.u96-bauen.de/vorschau/ click on this link and you see the bits for the next issues, I think up to issue 75, it is in german but a picture says many words.

According to instruction that is the planking we had to put on (Until issue 38) So Issue 40 this wednesday. Planks again.
Looking at the instruction pictures in Issue 38 on page 151 there is a small picture showing the bow section being planked underneath.

I had a look on a german forum about the build of the Hachette/Amati U69. I think the are different. Does anybody know anything? The forward frames are open from both sides because of the forward Torpedo room. Also the planking is done different, very simular but not the same. Must be 2 different kits then. :think:

1st planking completed. (Will not follow the build on the German forum, clearly it is the same sub, but yet it is another one from Amati, got more interior detail)

Have to stop looking at the german forum, as I mentioned yesterday I think, the are both the "same" but the are not. especially the forward torpedo room, it has visible detail in it but not in the one we are building. :o

If you look close at the german one, you see the details in the forward torpedo room, also the frames are not solid either like the one we are building in that section. At the moment I found 2 figures from Historex, still looking for some moore..
