Base coat down on the lower half of the plane. Came out quite a bit darker than what Airfix recommends, but it IS what Vallejo says it should be. It may look different in sunlight, but well, there's no sun around here to be seen these days. Gonna keep it this way for now.

Found this helpful chart. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZV5YW3wZNlc/T ... tmodel.png

So it looks like the color IS correct for a factory new paintjob, only it oxidizes to a lighter version as it ages. So all good, I didn't plan to do any heavy weathering anyway.

So this was NOT a very successful day.

Image

First the dollar store panzer putty copy I used to mask the line between the lower and upper paintjob tore the paint right off the primer, so I freehanded the line to repair that. It's.... OK.

Then it turns out the Abteilung 502 liquid latex mask on the canopy rips off the paint off the edges of the mask in flakes when you remove it. Luckily I used white glue to fix the canopy so I could rip it right off and clean it up a bit. I'll try Mr Masking Sol next.

Also dinged the paint job while trying to salvage this. Fun. :angry-steamingears:

Sorry to hear of your mishap with the paint, fingers crossed that you haven't done too much damage and that you will be able to salvage your model.

At this point (after a number of tests with other liquid masking products) the cabin is no longer salvagable and has turned into a horrid mess of a dozen different chemicals.

Took another dive in the stash and pulled out the Airfix 1/32 Ford Fiesta RS WRC A03413 (non starter kit edition) with an RRP of GBP 18,99

A 2012 release this is another level 1 kit which will give me extensive opportunity to train placing decals, something I've not been all that good at in the past :D

Here's some Jervy Hou with a fitting song for the occasion.

Sorry to hear the demise of the Zero, might me worth asking Airfix for a spare canopy? Will you still love the Fiesta at the end, thats the question :laughing-rolling:

Definitely. Though it's likely it won't be in time for the competition. The Zero goes back on the shelf for now and will be finished when/if I get a replacement canopy.

Started on the Ford. This is astonishingly detailed for a model this small. If anyone knows of a picture of the gear behind the drivers seat, I'd be glad to see it. I didn't have much luck.

Shame the Zero went wrong. Looking forward to seeing how the Ford comes together. I haven’t seen the new Airfix cars built yet.
Cheers

So far fit is really nice, though there've been a number of errors in the instructions already up to this point and more will be coming. Strangely enough those have apparently not been corrected for the re-release next year.

From what I've read there'll be a number of issues with parts fit further down the road especially regarding the windows. We'll see how that goes.

Shame about the zero,

Do have a photo of the packaging, instructions, sprues and is there any decor?
