Well, started the build, and she's going together rather nicely. The frames are all MDF.

Hope to get some more done over the weekend - adding some decks and then the start of the therapeutic planking!

Great start - have a K .

Unusual for the hull segments to loop under the false keel.

Update on the planking - there will be a second layer, so bit of rubbing down to be done once the first is completed. Aft decks also installed.

Finally managed to find a little "Me" time, first layer of planking finished and set to work on the funnels.

Image

Image

Image

Looking very rough, but after a quick sand down...

Image

And then for the funnel casings - thin planks at the front to give the curvature.

Image

And the funnels in place (not glued).

Image

Next stage is adding brass bulkheads to the lower promenade, second layer planking and addition of resin bow and stern.

The beautiful lines of the ship are showing nicely. It will be a gorgeous model when it's finished.

She was never my most favourite of liners Mark, and I sailed on her twice as the SS Norway. But as I build her, she has a certain "je ne sais quoi" as they say in France

I'm just praying that Hachette bring out a QE2 for her 50th anniversary

...at least they haven't simply left her rot away but apparently used up the material...

I've been slowly working away on the France. First planking done, and sanding it down before the second planking, although the second planking strips are VERY thin, so need to make sure everything is very smooth before then.

Image

Image

So, to stop me going stir crazy, I've been concentrating on the funnels and casings.

Image

Wings in place, but not glued

Image

Image

I'm going to finish the funnels and then start on the lifeboats - 24 in total with 5 parts to each, and the Davits - 4 parts to each in PE...

Coming on really nicely Graham. Like you say, have to get the first planking perfectly smooth with sanding and filler otherwise the second planking will never go right !
