My routemaster build

Postby auuo54 » Tue Feb 13, 2018 8:16 pm

I just received my first 2 parts got the next delivery after the 2nd of march, I am looking forward to building this, I know its expensive but been a while since the James bond db5.
Just a question I have fibromyalgia and find it difficult to hold the screws, any recommendations to a screwdriver set that does the tiny screws.
I will post pics once I have built the parts up..

Hi auuo, I can sympathize with your difficulties I to have problems of my own but with that aside try this link https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/BlueSpot-Tools ... 2581988379
There prices are better and there is plenty to suit your needs with various "grips" I would think ? there is one tip I can offer you if I may, make sure your new "drivers" are "magnetic" you will be surprised how much it helps !
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers, Mike.
N.B. If you can't find "magnetic" ones there are ways you can make them magnetic yourself.
N.B. again I personally have this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9-IN-1-PRECI ... wBoaPXxkzw among-st others (ALDI)
Wink.

Parts 1&2 done, struggled with part 2 and tiny red screws scuffed a couple and took the red coating off annoying, is there any suggestions on how to touch them up or best to leave it?

If it was me I would touch them in with gloss red paint! There is a possibility that I could be building this kit after all. I wasn't going to do it as I have to many other projects on the go including work from the Dover Transport Museum! A friend of mine wants the bus but has a disability so can't build it and he's asked me if I will do it for him. If it comes off I could do a build diary on it if requested.

Hi auuo54 (what is your name, :) ) great advice from John but do a colour match test first just to make sure that when it dry's (24hrs) there is a match, just a thought,

You could leave it, would add to the weathering, or you could touch up with a little bit of paint of you could try a red sharpie?

An Interesting "fix" but still do a "test".

Finished parts 1&2 had to purchase spare issues as clumsy me broke a couple of bits.. :x

I do have some spares from issues 1&2, if anyone is interested?

Anyone got a idea of what's coming up in the issues, I know 3&4 are the staircase.. Just thinking beyond that.

Hi Jay and welcome :)
The paintwork looks really nice in the photo's.
Shame about the screw marks, think I would leave them for now and find the best match if you choose to paint them.

I slightly chewed my screw heads on the tiny red screws, so looking on eBay I found a red paint marker only cost a couple of quid, so I thought I will give this a go, I know it's not a complete match but I am happy with it for now.

Still waiting for my delivery of 3,4,5 & 6, But managed to get hold of 3,4,5&6 from a local WHSmith. so been playing with ideas on modding? What do people think?
Thought I try this on these parts rather than when my delivery comes then do the mods permanent.
There is chrome film on the edges the white tape is double sided tape ready for the wood I got coming for the floor, I also did the pins on the kick plates

The wood arrived and I tried it on the stairs first, got to tackle doing the main floor yet going to take some time as a lot of cutting involved...

Hi Jay, It's getting Interesting now :D the introduction of wood surprised me :o I wasn't expecting that, seeing the platform took me back in time, as a kid ;) I remember swing on the chrome pole and many a time getting a "clipped ear" from the conductor :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

The wood veneer I am using is good but I am struggling to keep straight lines when cutting, plus my fibromyalgia is playing up so in lots of pain...
I will post pics of my attempt later on...
