MY BUS TEST

Postby R2D2 » Sat Jan 27, 2018 3:40 pm

Hi all! Bought the first issue of the Hachette build the Routemaster bus just to see the quality! If I'm happy with it I might Buy the whole thing at my local newsagents! I drove these in the 70s for East Kent and actually passed my test in a Routemaster. Regarding the bonnet! There was a gap on the hood as in the summer the engines used to overheat so the maintanance crews adjusted the catches to make a gap to help cool the engines!

Parts taken out of packets. Quality is pretty good as far as I can see. We will have to see how it fits together to find out if the fit and quality continue!

Hinges fitted to side panel. I suggest reaming out the holes as the screws are a tight fit because of paint in them and could split. That's what I did and had no problems.

Main bonnet resting on front grill. So far the quality in my opinion is pretty good! Looking at the bonnet and grill dimentions this is going to be a really big model even in 1/12the scale! I know the screws showing on the finished model could be a bit of an issue with some people but if I do decide to get this model I'm thinking of painting the screw heads red where exposed! This would lesson the problem. I might even do a major mod and paint the whole bus in East Kent colours (Cream and maroon).

Looking forward to seeing your mods on this fantastic bus.
I was thinking of using micro rivets instead of the screws but will have to see exactly how they are putting this together. Just a thought.

Hi cyborg8888! I to thought of rivets but they would have to be pretty small and the work involved would be to much!
