More done on the cockpit today - went with the insulated quilted lining on the walls - James, the first diagram below shows black out curtains in a '17 - didn't know they had them.... :?

I didn't know about the blackout curtains either.

You might want to check on the Memphis belle restoration photos and see if they are put in. The yanks bombed by daylight in the European theatre, so I don't see the use for them and they might have been removed. Also check other interior photos on B-17's They might have only been put in for transportation flights from the factory.

That insulation quilting looks good. What did you use? Also, the Eduard stuff certainly adds to the detail!

I have had chance to go through the Lancaster box and there were no spares for the B-17. I'll try Neil again. Sorry for this. If needs must you can have the sprue from my kit.

I think they removed the black out curtains like you say due to the daylight campaign - I used wedding invitation sample card stock that I painted and washed - :D

No worries on the spare sprue /parts - I will try :D

Thanks all for looking in - Your Lanc will be awesome based on past observations of your work -, James - awaiting your start also :) ......Finished the back bulkhead of the pilot's cabin (behind the top turret position) - That's the last of the 'quilted' insulation in this area - no more to so till I get to the radio op compartment....Bomb bay next and starts next week - It will take a few weekends I think...

moving on to the bomb bay - Again using the real Belle in her refurbished colours at the USAF museum.....

I didn't want to cut the port bomb rack form the kit wall section as it had locater pins on the back sid e- figured I'd need those when closing the fuselage....So I kinda cut and married the kit and Eduard pieces. Followed by struts and bits and pieces...
ImageImageImage
Then painted it the colours form the USAF museum example. Will start the stbd wall tomorrow - Not sure if I'm putting in bombs as yet -

Great detail on the bulkheads. It adds a lot to the model.

Continue with the centre trestle and bomb racks (the centre bomb racks made up my mind about putting the bombs in, I will have to as there is only 3 release mechanisms moulded in the rack frames....I got ahead of myself on the stbd bay wall and mounted the little j-boxes on the wrong side - I'm afraid I will wreck hem to pull and move them.... :( - I still haven't figured out if I need to put non-slip on the trestle walkway.....Surifng the net at present on that one....

After trimming back some of the quilting on the back cockpit wall - Started the front side of the bomb bay again....Added some non-skid (sand paper) to the bomb bay bridge and the front hand ropes....
