Revell Volkswagen T1 1/24

Hi guys, Well it's time to "break my duck" as it were ;) It's the " Samba bus" I hope you will look in now and again :) but please bare with me as I was born at a very early age :laughing-rolling: I've studied the plans and there are a lot of "options" to choose from e.g. decals, this open or closed, I'm definitely going to change the colour scheme.
All advice and comments welcome.
To be continued...… :)

That's really good.

I do have some paint colours for you, but I am still doing some testing and I am using this set of instructions

https://stage.revell.de/fileadmin/import/images/bau/07399_%23BAU_VW_T1_SAMBA_BUS.PDF

I think that it is the re-release of the one you have and I am trying to match Vallejo Model Air paints to as many as possible of the Revell paints which are RAL coded or get as close as I can.

Metal paints will be matched to either Vallejo Metal Colour and/or AK Xtreme Metal paints.

For the exterior gloss paints, Model colour doesn't have many if any gloss stuff, so I am recommending that a gloss protective coat be used or mixing the paint with a gloss medium but you have to be careful with the gloss finish coats because if you spray them at the pressure you normally spray the Vallejo paints they are very close to dry before they hit the paint and don't cover well or give off the gloss gleam. This is what I am testing and will put up pressures etc, but you too should test yourself and find out which application pressure through your airbrush works best!

The kit I have downloaded the instructions for looks quite a nice build but I would like the 1/16 kit rather than the 1/24!

That's me though!

Looks like a fun kit. Personally, I’d use Tamiya rattle cans for the bodywork. Easy to get a nice finish with them. Just don’t be too heavy handed.
Cheers

Hi James :) thanks for your post, the instructions you have posted are the same as the kit I have :D
It seems this is turning into a "baptism by fire" but could make interesting lessons for anyone who's in "my shoes" :? :?
Ok here's where I am ……
I have H&S Infinity airbrush (unused so far) Val 74.601 surface primer and Val 70.501 gloss varnish and an assortment of Val colours.
Standard compressor.
I want to use Val Model air as this can be used straight bottle so no "thinning" but I think I need to decide which option I'm going for

Hi Mark :) thanks for your post, the last time I used a "rattle can" must be about 45 yrs ago :o I restored an old racing bike which served me well for many years after.

Here we go with the colours

A Aluminium Metal Colour 77.701 AK Xtreme Metal AK479
B Silk Black Model Air 71.057 26.652 Polyurethane Satin Varnish
C Silver Model Air 77.724 AK Xtreme Metal AK670 Stainless Steel - Good alternative with a very slight blue tint!
D Anthracite Model Air 71.056
E Steel Metal Colour 77.712 AK Xtreme Metal AK476
F Fire Red Gloss Model Air 71.269 26.650 Polyurethane Gloss Varnish
G Blue Gloss Model Air 71.088 (No match to RAL Number, but very close to original colour) 26.650 Polyurethane Gloss Varnish
H White Gloss Model Air 71.279 (No match to RAL Number, but very close to original colour) 26.650 Polyurethane Gloss Varnish
I Grey Silk Model Air 71.051 (Actual colour is a matt finish)
J Light Grey Silk Model Air 71.121 (Actual colour is a matt finish)
K White Silk Model Air 71.279 (Actual colour is a matt finish)
L Black Gloss Metal Colour 77.660 AK Xtreme Metal AK471
M Beige Matt Model Air 71.132 (this is RAL 1019 and is close to the Revell colour (RAL 1015))
N Stone Grey 75 Model Air 71.103
O Orange clear Model Air 70.935 (best applied inside clear parts with a paint brush and a very, very thin coat only)
P Red Clear Model Air 70.934 (best applied inside clear parts with a paint brush and a very, very thin coat only)

I am not going to try and guess for colour Q, Sorry! I can only find one part that has that colour cose and it is part of the engine I believe. I just would paint that the engine colour and have done with it!

Hope this helps!

RAL stands for Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen und Gütesicherung

which is roughly the German equivalent to BSI

That is my understanding but I could be completely wrong.

Nearly got this kit before Christmas, love it. All those windows will be fun
I fancy having a go at the 1:24 VW T1 Transporter (Kastenwagen) and rust it all up, just got some Alclad Warpigs Rust pigments and dying to try them out.

Hi guys, Have I just woken up from a dream of an episode of "home and away" all the "Dude" speak goes over my head :? :laughing-rolling:

[b][I] Here's my first post for the build of the year comp 2019 "VW T1 Bus" [b][i]I'm not going to "rabbit" on about the "tech" stuff that's not my thing :? however if you are interested this link https://stage.revell.de/fileadmin/impor ... BA_BUS.PDF will give you all the "specs" you want :) (thanks to James (Snapdragon)
The things I know for sure is the "bus" has an air cooled engine which is "Transvers" and like all old VW's has little to nothing when it comes to in car heating. :occasion-snowman:

To be continued. W2 ;) (but very slowly :laughing-rolling: )
Thanks for stopping by.
