Thanks Mark,

I definitely going down the painting route, all the paint I required has just arrived, so I will tuck into it once I find some free time :)

I've masked off the X wing and sprayed it with a few fine coats of Tamiya insignia white primer

All sat in my mock up paint booth ready to be painted

ImageIMG_3431 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

After the primer has been applied

ImageIMG_3433 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I'm going to give the primer a few days to set before I masked off various areas to apply the various colours.

You need to wait no longer Morris,

Finally found the time to masked up the X-wing and I applied a grey base to where the red needs to be

ImageIMG_3937 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

Then I sprayed several layers with a red over coat and then I removed the masking tape

ImageIMG_3938 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I'm going to leave the paint to dry overnight before I masked off the area for the grey colour. I will deface some of the paint to make it look like wear and tear and battle damage.

Thanks Morris,

I've spent all morning masking up the X-wing for the grey, quiet a fair bit and some fiddly bits too.

I sprayed the grey this afternoon and had to re-masked off the darker grey and gave the rest of the grey a few fine mist of white to lighten the grey in some areas. I've just pulled off the masking tape and it look really good. There is a couple of over spray in places, but I will tidy them up another day. The cock pit canopy was also prayed too.

There still is more to paint

Thanks Morris, I will be weathering the X-wing, but that will be left to last, still more paint to add first

I opened up the wings to paint the inside of the wings

ImageIMG_4001 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

ImageIMG_4003 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

There are still odds and ends to paint for the under carriage

ImageIMG_4034 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

as well as R2 and Luke figures

ImageIMG_4037 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The under carriage parts painted to match underneath the X-wing and weathered

ImageIMG_4035 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

R2 head being painted, there are two of these, one to sit on the back of the X-wing and the other for the figurine

ImageIMG_4002 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

Painting the figurines...

ImageIMG_4038 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

...these are stood upon a vitamin lid which I'm turning into a mini Dagobah diorama, I also applied the transfers to Luke helmet using Micro Set And Sol, other than that, everything else is painted by hand, most of which is very tiny details

ImageIMG_4044 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I filled the vitamin lid with some Das clay

ImageIMG_4052 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

R2 has been weathered and dirtied up, I've added a small twig for a branch to the base

Thanks Morris

I'm quiet frustrated with the figure supplied. The figure is quiet static looking and it would have looked better without his helmet on as you really don't see Luke walking around with it on (except for Hoth ATAT attack).

So I decided to decapitate his head :o

ImageIMG_4059 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I replaced it with a similar size head from another figure

ImageIMG_4063 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The colours that I painted him was correct for A New Hope, but for the Empire Strikes back, he had some grey coverings over his black boots and a lightsabre, he wasn't wearing gloves when he was on Dagobah.

So I repainted his boots grey, reshaped his gloves and added a small section of paper clip to make a mini lightsabre. I hollowed out his helmet and attached it to look like Luke was holding it.

I painted the diorama base with black primer, I then coated it with olive green and some dash of brown. I cover some of the base with some grass scatter before coating it with some high shine gloss to give a swamp like appearance.

I also added some green cotton thread around the tree branch to represent some vines.

I used the same painting and weathering technique as used on my Millennium Falcon. I used a black wash on the model and I took some sandpaper to some of the paint to distress it.

ImageIMG_4007 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

ImageIMG_4008 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I also used the toothbrush flick method to apply some dark grey and yellow/brown splatters all over the model.

Here is the finish model, with the landing gear down and also up. Everything was painted apart from the spirals on the guns which were transfers fitted using Set and Sol.

One thing I did notice in most of the photos and the video, the cockpit canopy isn't shut properly and there is a small gap, this is not an ill fitting canopy, but just me not shutting it properly, but you can see in the next photo that it really does shut properly :)

And here is the X-wing in action

Thanks for watching
