This looks like a great kit. I’ve been tempted, but resisted it so far.....

Doh!
thanks Mark, should have looked closer

Paragrarfix dose a etch kit for the 1/48 X-wing

http://www.paragrafix.biz/product_detai ... Num=pgx201

There is not much of a cockpit to modify, but most of the kit is to build a ladder as seen in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back

Guess what arrived today :D

The Box

ImageIMG_2580 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The instructions all in Japanese, but easy to follow

ImageIMG_2596 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The contents

ImageIMG_2597 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The kit came with 2 sets of decors, one sticky back and the other water transfer. I might paint the model directly where possible and use the deco for the fine detailing

ImageIMG_2599 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The sound control stand and motorise x box

ImageIMG_2600 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

My first impression is that it seem like a very good quality kit and no :superlglue: is required at all.

The first thing was to put together the stand and test the x box

ImageIMG_2604 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I made a start on the X Wing Starfighter. I tried out the water transfers on the cockpit, but they were very difficult to apply as the surface wasn't that smooth, actually if was very detailed giving you the option to paint it instead of using the decor, the transfers didn't adhere to it that well.

ImageIMG_2605 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

ImageIMG_2606 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

I might modify the cockpit, I not going to purchase the etch parts as the cockpit is so small but already detailed, that I doubt that it will make much difference. I might add some lighting by using fibre optics

However, the build has come to a standstill at the moment as I would like to paint the cockpit and Luke Skywalker at this stage before I continue.

First away from the blocks! Well done!

The detail on these Bandai kits is superb. I think they must be the best kits on the market as far as moulding quality and fit goes. Even though they don't need glue, I do glue them to avoid cracks occurring along join lines.

The ParaGrafix etched set doesn't add a lot to the kit, especially for the relatively high price tag.

Looking forward to this one!
Cheers

Really nice looking kit, I'm looking forward to seeing you put it together Roy 8-)
The fit on these kits is amazing, you don't need glue as you said but I found it helped in some areas of my ATST. The stand looks cool as does all the electronics, does it also have the sound affects .

Yes it does as in the youtube video in the above post. It has 2 sound effects, one when the wings open and closes and the laser gun shooting sound effect.

My build was on hold due to the cockpit and Luke requiring painting before I can continue.

Took me the best part of the last two days to paint Luke. He is quiet tiny to paint, especially trying to get the detailing right.

Here he is on a cocktail stick

ImageIMG_3125 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I started on the rest of the X-wing fighter, but only loosely fitted it until I could put Luke in place.

ImageIMG_3129 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

Luke in place with the inside of the cockpit painted by dry bushing it.

ImageIMG_3131 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

There is a choice of two cockpit canopies. One is hinged, but needs painting, the other is not hinged, but has a separate frame to the glass, making painting easier, so no need to mask the glass.

ImageIMG_3138 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

R2D2 in place but will need painting

ImageIMG_3141 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

Beginning to take shape now

ImageIMG_3139 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

Started on the upper wing

ImageIMG_3143 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

and the lower wing

The underside has some removable plugs to convert so that you can have the landing gears fitted.

The base of the stand acts as a storage for the blanking plugs for the conversion between having the landing gear down or up

ImageIMG_3208 by Jess Lee, on Flickr

The figures need painting

I've two choices, to keep the X-wing as it is, unpainted and using the transfers provided and try and weather it, or for me to completely paint the X-wing where possible and use some of the transfers for the finer details. Then weather it

I'm thinking of doing the latter
