thx for K's -
Took advice and did test fit the nose wheel gear bay and cockpit from Aires in the forward fuselage (the Trumpy has a forward fuselage assy. similar to the Tamiya kit) - all fit okay width wise. Took some shots as I opened it...
ImageImageImageImageImage
But when I inserted the cockpit - width was okay, but the depth of the nose wheel bay is too high - will have to sand it down as much as I dare to lower the cockpit tub (pics shown after some sanding towards the end...) James, Mark - thanks for advising I check the fit...

I had a similar thing many moons ago when I had a bash at Trumpeters 1/32 A-10 and got a resin upgrade cockpit set etc for it.

It didn't go well and the instructions said I had to cut out various things on the kit to make it fit etc and truth to tell It was a right carve up and ended up in the bin.

Lesson learned was Don't trust resin upgrades. Next time I do a modern jet (there is one in my stash and the paints arrived the other day) go with Eduards sets if available!

Sometimes just a build out of the box with the odd addition ends up looking better than having to cut apart an expensive kit in the hope you can add more detail.

All very true and makes sense James - I could get around the problem by using the kit nose gear bay - but I think I will be hard headed and see if I can bash it - :superlglue:  - but...still enjoying the build...thinking about going to a Top Gun version on the Tamiya kit I started after this...it I can sort the aft section alignment issue :D

Pilot's tub finished -- continued cockpit and it's now as far as I can go - will get into the model proper next... :D - (I have to sort the crooked canopy piston slide also...angle is screwy)

Step 2 from the instructions - the engines - brush painted with Vallejo, Tamiya and AK Metal (step 1 was the cockpit replaced by the Aires one)

Don't forget to clear coat the engines with AK Gauzy shine. AK and Vallejo metals do not like being handled or masked and that clear coat allows that without altering the look of the metal. AK Xtreme metal and Gauzy Shine Agent are with the odd exception the only AK products I use.

Nose gear assy - Still to add side braces to the main stem. I do like the upgrade sets, but as James and Mark mentioned, you have to work at trying to shoe horn the parts into the kit parts....

Excellent work, Morris.

Sometimes I reckon that these resin replacements are more trouble than the kit itself. not being done in metal moulds, they are rubber or silicon and so are bigger because the weight of the resin expands the mould. sometimes it is easier and cheaper to scratch wiring etc.

then onto the forward fuselage (got rid of the P/E ejection seat handles in the head rests - replaced them with the kit ones - as they are closer to scale thickness) :D

Awesome Morris, had a look at my BOTY yesterday, painted the control panel brown, didn't like the look of it so stuck it in some thinners to remove it which softened the plastic resulting in a nice finger print embedded in the plastic :D
