Postby casper » Thu Aug 12, 2021 9:18 pm

One of my favourite 80,s films and favourite designers Sid Mead
This is a small sci fi build I'm doing, Its a trio of Tron Light cycles 3D printed in PLA. I got the STL files from https://www.thingiverse.com/
Its a simple two part print that's glued together.

I printed three bikes at standard settings because even on the best settings you would always get a print mark, you can use a setting called "Ironing" that lays down thicker final layers to give a smoother finish like a pooling effect but I needed to sand them anyway so not needed here.

I think I stabbed myself three times with the needle files :snooty:
I want to keep the lines on the wheels to give a sense of motion so I taped them up while sanding. Its nice to sand with 600 grit wet and dry but it takes a little time to do all three.

I used Tamiya acrylics for the orange and red but need to get a blue or yellow for the third bike, I was going to do yellow but blue would probably look better

Thanks Mark. it sands very well but I would recommend sanding wet to stop the fine dust getting everywhere.
I'm going to go back to the painting after fitting the light beams.
I used 1.5mm Perspex strips cut to different lengths then scribed the wheel size on both sides till the half circles came free

Then I used Zap canopy glue to fix them to the back wheel. The glue is surprisingly strong and dries clear
