Westland Whirlwind mark 1 Fighter

Postby firebex » Fri Sep 13, 2013 11:04 pm

We are currently in the process of getting all the materials and drawings together to build a Westland Whirlwind mk1 twin engined fighter of WW2.

The project is expected to take four years and we have the full support of Agusta Westland who sadly do not have much in the way of drawings in existence ,we have two CAD engineers who have been working for over 14 months now reverse engineering the airframe form a small number of drawings and two wind tunnel models scanned into the computer and what they have acheive dis nothing short of fantastic.

Any information for detail we can find on the airframe greatly appreciated, such things as accurate rivet lines, overlap direction of skins and panels, join lines etc ,etc, sketch's photo's anything helpfull to fill in the detail to make sure what we end up with is as accurate as we can possibly make it.

Many thanks

That's a very impressive, not to say ambitious project. Have you thought of contacting Airfix ? Their kit will not be any help, but they may have their reference material in archives ?

Please keep us updated about this project. It will be a really interesting one to follow. It's absolutely fine to post links to your web site so we know when that's been updated.
Cheers

Anyone modelling the Whirlwind is most welcome to join our web site and forum. There is a lot of detailed info and a good bit of CAD work on the site that may assist. All we ask in return is that if you have anything on the aircraft you share it with us.
