LOOK OUT FOR DARTH VADER

Postby R2D2 » Wed Nov 11, 2015 6:44 pm

I'm in the process of building a full size Darth Vader costume! So far Ive made with a lot of help from the Misses the jump suite from a fake leather cloth.

Here is the manaquin dressed up with full costume! The helmet is a Hasbro two part mask with working voice changer but I am modding it to work better with an amplifier and better voice changer! The chest piece is a dummy but I am modding the Hasbro one to have working lights and better electronics. The utility belt has been built by me from scratch and has working lights and LEDs. The gloves were bought but the cloak, and inner cape were made by the Misses as was the jump suite (She's very clever). The shoulder armour was made from gloss plastic sheeting and doesn't look to bad. However I might at some point buy or make a better fiberglass one! The light up saber is a Hasbro ultra fx with working light up shaft and sound effects. I know the head looks a bit high on the costume but the manaquin has a long neck! I might cut his head off and shorten it. Good grief! I sound like an executioner. :o
Here's a pic with working light saber!

Superb work, but your right, the mannequin does have an unrealistically long neck :o
Cheers

Thanks for all your positive comments! Yep. His heads gona have to come off and shorten his neck! If you look at the first pic its certainly to long! Its a good job his bodies going to be hidden by the costume! :D

Thanks for the comment Mark. I'm still working on the voice changer but I'm getting feed back because the mike and speaker are so close! They are both in the helmet. I might have to fit the speaker some other place. I was hoping they could be fitted in the mouth piece and use a head set mike! Does anyone know if there is a circuit that will overide the feed back? :P

There are noise cancelling circuits (I suspect mobile phones use them when in speaker) but it's not really a practical solution here. You can either turn the volume down, or add some sound deadening material between the mic and speaker.

I have put foam between the speaker and mike but it still squeels a bit. Your idea about phones using a noise cancelling circuit might help! I'll look on line to see if there is any available! Perhaps Maplin sell this type of circuit!

Perhaps you could find a better mic, with a very directional pick-up ?

Thanks casper. Have also managed to sort out the voice changer! I used a miniture loudhailer to amplify the voices. Its in line with the voice changer electronic unit and is housed in a seperate box! I have also used a head mike and covered the speaker in the mouth piece with foam. This seems to work providing you don't turn the volume up to loud!

Finally sorted out the voice changer on Darth Vader. Copied a great idea from a utube suggestion using a ben Ten voice changer and a i station amplifier. Here is the overall view of helmet with every thing fitted in place!

i station docking section open! This is where your i phone would normally go! The unit has an Aux in phono jack underneath which will be used for the voice changer input.
