1/48 Sikorsky HS03-1 (M. Rooney's chopper) Finished

Postby Morris » Sun Jan 05, 2020 12:08 pm

To start the new year off, I'm going back to modelling another kit from the 'Bridges at Toko Ri' film. This time I want to try the 'AMP' Sikorsky HS03-1 (S-51) kit. Also will use the Belcher Bits movie conversion accessories ....
I revisited my build thread on the Fisher Models Panther below just to get back into the Korean war paint schemes...pardon the repeats, but I liked building that kit...

The Corsair wasn't in the movie - - Just Banshees and Skyraiders. I want to get a Skyraider one day..Anyway. back to the current kit...the chopper...
ImageImage
The instructions from the Belcher Bits parts...(mainly decals and a Mickey Rooney figure)

First up in the instructions is the cockpit, rear wheels and rotor head....I cant find any good material on the cockpit colour so I watched the scenes form the movie again and it is almost all dark zinc c. green....what you could see....so I stuck with that right or wrong...
ImageImage
Gotta' glue that shoulder strap back down on the pilot's seat...
ImageImage
Yes the forward fuselage is all clear - so masking and fighting seams next - Hope I don't break anything - the clear parts are very brittle - The entire kit is a bit of a bear....

Panther was a great build Morris  . Helicopter going to round it off nicely ,as a child can't say I liked the film .Thought it was slow and hero dies :naughty: ,but now think it's a classic with interesting character stories Wife and Beer barrel and Forney love story and great for period naval working practice. Seen William Holdens girlfriend Stephanie Powers at Malvern theatre :ugeek: Sorry for rambling  Zoukei Mura do a cracking Skyraider ;) .

That ZM Skyraider is like a grail kit for me. I like watching James tackle them.......maybe one day

Anyway, slow progress on the 'Angel' from BATR - nothing fits, lots of re-drilling and sanding - but it's starting to yield a bit....(when I'm not dropping tweeny weeny pieces in the carpet...) Rewatched the rescue scene and it's definitely Z.C. green on the interior..So I felt like I could close up the forward clear fuselage now.

Yes, that's some old Euro cents in the lower forward fuselage. Nose weights ;)

Rotor assemblies next - I'm working on folding the main rotor blades but the assemblies are very fiddly...

It's a Belcher Bits figure of Mickey Rooney with the top hat - not bad for a 1/48 scale figure.

Joined the fuselage to the cabin - commenced decal work - modified the port outside step to roughly match the movie one....
