After having a while of not being able to do much modelling, including settling into a new flat, new job, a fair bit of travel, etc. and getting hacked off with the lat couple of bits of the engines, I've finally got some progress worth sharing !!

These were the two rings that caused so much frustration. They each sit on the ends of 6 'ribs' and none of them seemed to be in the right position. I managed to choose 2 ribs that were more or less the right distance apart and glued the rings to them. Then the remaining 4 were encouraged into position and glued one by one.

Image

I finally finished them last night, and now have two engines ready to fit.

Image

Fitting them isn't likely to be easy. There are no locating parts to tell you how far forward they should go. There are notches in the engine housings that get them in the right axial position, but they are free to slide backwards and forwards.....

Ha ! Victory is mine !!

Image

Well, a victory of sorts - the kits managed to inflict about 2 months worth of frustration into 2 evenings !! It was a right 'mare trying to get the engines into all 3 location slots and glued ! It kept falling out, the glue wouldn't go off, and parts bent. In the end it was glue it into one slot at a time...

Still, got there in the end :D

I have to say, this was extremely challenging. The engines are particularly difficult !! I lost two pieces to the carpet monster, but that was just a DF loop and antenna on the bottom of the plane. Nobody would ever notice they are missing. I left the guns off as the mouldings were not very good. There is a stand included but I preferred the model standing on its wheels. Oh, and there was one piece left over. It was very small, and absolutely no chance of fitting it now, but it's not noticeable either. I'm pleased with the finished result, but it's not a model for the feint hearted !!
