Airfix 1/24 Harrier

Postby Mustang » Mon Sep 26, 2016 1:08 am

So I'll be doing the Harrier, only because I'm still waiting for update parts for the F14.

As I said at the end of my last build, this won't be a in depth build. I'll update at curtain parts like kit parts to new parts.

So here's the Box art.

As you can see this is a really old kit, might be older then me. Know I'm sure some of your are going to say why not buy the new GR3 version, well simple answer this cost me £15 at a show so even with the extras it's still cheaper.

Won't be doing either of these as this will hopefully be a Falkland War version.

I'll be watching this build with interest. I have an old 1/24 Harrier in my stash - can't remember which version though

When you look at the parts in this kit... and although it's an original release it's the same parts that are in the modern design boxes. They just scream to be redone to the Typhoon standards.
Partwork Building is like meeting enemy action - no plan survives first contact!!

Well this hasn't gone well so far.

I stated on the cockpit brass section for the floor and side walls, bent them as per instructions and then dropped it. The worst part I then put my size 10 on it well you can guess what that looked like.

So after me trying to straighten it out the folds all snapped, so what to do. I thought I'll place the brass parts inside the plastic section of the kit and build that up, so trimmed the floor to fit and put the side parts in only then to realise at that point that the seat now won't fit.

Next idea cut the plastic part into three sections floor and two side walls and rebuild it up from there, I started to work this out but trying to hold these pieces inside the cockpit area is a nightmare as the fuselage is so big.

So last night I ordered the replacment cockpit from Heritage, I don't like the main cockpit that they do but the side walls for the fuselage, rear bulkhead, hud unit, feet controls and possible the seat I can use, the side walls will help me in working out the correct placement for the destroyed cockpit I have. I'll hopefully still use the brass cockpit if not then the resin one will have to do.
