Tamiya 1/48 F-14 Tomcat

Postby GrantJ » Thu Nov 17, 2016 10:24 am

I have been building kits for many many years from many different manufacturers but have never encountered a kit as fantastically good as this one!!!!!!

Image

The engineering that has gone into this kit is mindblowing. The joints are just so good that its difficult to see where to brush on liquid glue :o

First up was the cockpit tub

I wish they would redo their older 1/32 kits. Looking at this they are in need of a overhaul and bringing up to date. Their newer stuff from the zero onwards are fantastic kits as we have seen on here.

Must get some of the newer trumpeter jets to try. Their Russian and American Mig's, SU's, Tomcats etc. Look really good. Their EE Lightning does have problems I believe, but it seems to come out the far end looking good.

Must get some Tamiya 1/32 in during my restock!

Very nice Grant - that's an amazing looking cockpit. It's getting difficult to see where Tamiya stop and Lego start these days !!
Cheers

Thanks guys!

I can strongly suggest that this kit is put to the top of anyones "to buy" list. Every time I work on it I am blown away by how good it is.

I normally like to get all the weapons done early on in the build and this time its no different. Once again the way the missiles are construxcted is very different and allows for less clean up on joints......

Be prepared to spend many hours decaling the weapons as there are literally hundreds of decals to be applied

The problem is you will look at all your other kits differently after this beauty :laughing-rolling:

I hope you can get one in January as they are totally sold out here in South Africa.

Bit more work done and now all the decaling is finished and the sub-assemblies have been sprayed with satin clear coat

Image

And with all the main bits just pieced together

Image

Next job is the worst- all the landing gear doors have to have a red edging on them! Not sure how to do this neatly but going to try with a felt marker.
