Hi guys is a model I did no MS website.

But I know you will also enjoy it.

This will be a simple build of the Airfix Do217e + Me328.

So a brief history.
The first unpowered DFS-build Me328V-1 which this kit is based on was mounted mistel fashion on a special test rig fitted with strain gauges above a Dornier Do217e bomber and flown in 1943. When it was released the aircraft handling was judged to be adequate for the role, but by this time the fighter version had been abandoned in favour of the bomber version.

In 1944 the project was abandoned as more effective versions were being used like the Fw190 & Bf109 fighters mounted above a bomber.

So with the brief history done, the build will start.

This is what's in the kit
Image

Image

Very basic, so this is what I've added.

Plasti card to hide the sinkholes, and some to form a rear bulkhead.
Image

And bits from the spare box.
Image

Fuselage isn't joined together yet.
Image

Image

Also found some decals that I can add to the equipment.

Next I looked at all the clear parts.

As you can see there's no lines to form the metal frame work.
Image

So I've manually done them.
Image

And the finished bits.
Image

The worst one was the front canopy which is the one on the left.

A slight change to the Me328, I've done it as factory finish

Image

Also added a seat belt and dials, but the dials are so small the camera didn't pick them up. So I didn't bother with the photo.
Image

Image

How I did the metal foil, cut a piece bigger then the area to be covered
Image

Trim to where the panel lines would be. Use a cotton bud to help smooth out the piece then use a cocktail stick rounded of to help the edges.
Image

Image

Then I added some wood decals.
Image

The wood area will be sealed with oil paints once dry, i needed to do this aircraft first as the oil paint will need time to dry. Tomorrow I'll finish the wings.

An issue that I've come across is the engine farrings locating slots are in the wrong place :angry-banghead:

This is the port wing, if I place them on as per the slots this is how it would look.
Image

Starboard wing isn't as bad, if placed on as per the slots it's upside down.
Image

So the starboard one will be rotated from 6 - 12 position, and port rotated from 6 - 3 postion. So I'll rota them and fill in the tab slots.

Hope that makes sense.

The two halfs didn't fit together correctly, the Perspex bits didn't fit without major gaps, the worst was the bottom one where I've had to raise it and add some plasticard. And the wings didn't aline to the fuselage.

But it's together.
Image

Image

I've also added some undercarriage struts.
Image

Up next a coat of primer and see if it needs anymore work.

The top camouflage scheme using RLM 70/71

Took a lot of tape to do and I still need to seal the second colour scheme.

Decals added, waiting for them to set and then check and seal.
Image

Will have to do some more touch up. The red lines where miss printed and the underside white can be seen, as you can see I've already done the left wing.
Image

The decals are old and as you can see the film is showing, hopefully this will vanish once I've added the top coat of sealer.

What a great job you've done on this one especially the canopy frames, its hard enough with the frames moulded on already. A fitting tribute to Paul.

Lovely work Mustang. I do love the combination of the new prototype atop the older weathered mother plane.
Looks like it gave you a good run for your money though. Don't you just love old kits !!

Have a K. Paul would have been proud.
Cheers
