Sikorsky H-19 Rescue Chopper

Postby Morris » Sat May 27, 2017 12:08 pm

Blast from the Past form the back of the stash shelves - Working on this for the weekend - Every single piece has to be sanded and trimmed. Making the cockpit at present - Added some S-59 cockpit P.E. pieces to it to detail it a bit...And will add some resin seats....

I can't resist the almost morbid curiosity of watching an old kit being built !

Added the seats from a later Sikorsky (H-34) as the ones supplied looked like arm chairs in the living room.. - that's pretty well it for the cockpit - on to the nose located engine bay now ......

Back tracked and finished steps 1 & 2 - Next to tackle is the final step 5 - mainly the fuselage and all the attachments - windows are supplied for the cockpit but none for the passenger area. Will have to make some.....

Major parts assembled - base coated - the pontoons had a bad seam - lots of filler and sanding - Put together the fuselage - mounted the cockpit first. Then the windows for the cockpit (show's her age with the clear parts - very thick) - Had to make windows for the cabin - the kit isn't made/supplied with any - Added mesh to the engine compartment cooling vents - (except for the round but under the forward windscreen. I couldn't mount the engine bay with it in place.)
Pushed the engine bay into the nose and cemented it. Now starts the smaller stuff and weathering.....

Very nice ,I do like Revell they make some nice subjects and you can get a fairly good model quite cheaply.

Thanks for having a squint and commenting.....Further progress through the weekend - weathering and mounting the pontoons - the oldie but goodie side of things rose up and bit me thoroughly - The decals are fairly old and I didn't coat them prior to wetting them for application as I should have - they basically just fell to bits - all I could salvage was the stars and bars. I'm using some scrap box decals - I wanted to portray a Cape Cod based S-55/H-19 in the USCG. I will have to paint the yellow rescue tail boom bar as the decal failed as mentioned.....I have some other smaller marker decals to fit and detail in some smaller items. :D
