!/35 Italeri S-100 Schnellboot

Postby ojays » Sat Sep 21, 2013 8:27 pm

As explained in my intro story, I returned to our obsession back in 2011 after a 45+yr break.
This is an on-off build and I don't have a particular build sequence, just doing what I want when I can!
I have had an interest in the German e-boats since a child, when I read stories and saw pictures of them in the comics (Lion/Tiger/Eagle) my father used to bring me every Friday.
I always found them more menacing and powerful looking than the British & American MTB's of the time.
Now in the position (retired) to have the time, I purchased this kit back in Nov 2011. I spent some time collecting several Photo-Etch sets, an AFV 20mm Quad Flak Vierling kit + PE kit for that also, + several other aftermarket ancillaries.
In all there were over 1100 parts to try to put together, I knew this was not going to be a quick build, especially as I intend it to be a working boot with motors(3) and radio Control.
It isn't my goal to represent a particular craft, just a well used weapon of war!
I hope you enjoy as much as I have building it so far!

Hope this answers your question on Ks

Karma, or K's by Mark » Mon Sep 12, 2011 10:04

As we have quite a few new members, I thought I'd just explain the Karma system. You can give good and bad Karma, which is either praising a good post, or registering disapproval of a bad post.

To give good Karma, click the green thumbs up icon which is below the poster's name of the right hand side. To give bad Karma (aka smiting a post) click the red thumbs down icon.

There are limits on how you can give Karma. You can only give Karma once per hour. You can only give one Karma point to somebody at a time. I.e. Give a Karma to person A, and then you have to give a K to somebody else before you can give another to person A. This is a new feature just added to the forum to see how it goes. You have to have made 5 posts before you can give Karma.

You can give good or bad Karma for whatever reason you like, and you don't have to explain yourself. It could be a particularly helpful post, a good joke, admitting to a monumental foul-up. Whatever you think deserves it.

Cheers Mark

I do'nt know the answer to your last question.

Hi Steve, I presume you mean S-130, of operation Tiger infamy!
I wasn't aware of the owners name, however I have been following this build on the net!

Yes that's the one being restored in Cornwall, seen a couple of programmes on History channel about its progress.

As this Boot is going to be handled regularly, I realised that many of the really thin/fragile plastic railings etc., would be susceptible breakage.

This in mind I replaced the Stanchions and depression rails with brass tubing, also correcting some of the rails that were of an incorrect shape. The forward 20mm flak-kanon is inside a tub that is actually incorrect in scale, so a new one was constructed and fitted.
The 20mm Quad Flak-Vierling required a pedestal to mount it on, this and the previous mods following plans acquired from (http://www.rpalmacci). who supplies many amazing scale plans for the Shnellboote.

Some more weathering was also done when I got bored with the metal bending/soldering!

Fantastic job that. "K" well deserved, wish the would bring out the early type in that scale(the one you get from airfix is at 1/72) I would have one of them.

Many thanks for you welcome comments.

You can make the earlier version in 1/35, as that is my next project.

I bought a (very badly nearly made/destroyed) Schnellboote off e-bay quite cheaply to convert.
I am in the process of purchasing the excellent plans for converting the 1/35 Italeri S100 from Robert at http://www.rpalmacci.free.fr
I have used his plans to correct some of the items on my boote, and found them to be very easy to use and worthwhile for detailing, as can be seen in some of the photo's above.
They are not expensive, and if you are into plasti-card bashing shouldn't be too much of a chore.
You can view the plans on his website before purchase, to see if that is the road you may want to go.

Great build Mr ojays! Have just come into this thread - love the weathering, and it is very nice to meet another rivet driller! How many did you break on the Flak tub?

'K' awarded

Thanks for the positive comments Peter,
As to the rivets, I cheated and used 'Archer' resin rivets. So easy to use and not expensive.
