GW Zombie Dragon

Just to get Casper all excited, this just happened to fall through the letter box a few days ago. Dunno why - perhaps I got careless when I ordered some paints, and clicked the wrong button...... must be more careful in future

It a masterpiece of design. Two completely different models, but the head and neck are the only significantly different parts. Body, wings and legs are all the same, just assembled differently to give two totally different poses, with the aid of some small alternative parts. I'm going for the alternative model on the back of the box. I'd have liked to put the dragon's head on model B, but I don't think it's possible, not without a lot of major surgery anyway.

Anyway, I'm not starting it for a while yet. Too much else to do, and work and holidays are seriously going to get in the way of model making for a while.
Cheers

Something for my Shadowsword to deal with. Except I'm not sure they would meet up in a game. I need to build my Chimera tank. Look forward to seeing it built and how you go painting it.

Maybe we need to have a Warhammer section on the forum, just a thought I had.

this is a joke -
I can't get this kind of things dropping through my letter box -
as we all now comply to the new EU norms regarding safe letter delivery the letter box lid on our newly installed item is so small it will hardly swallow a A4 padded envelope containing an etched fret

Sounds crazy. Maybe not so bad as removing outdoor rubbish bins from places out here, in case someone drops something in one, that might go pop in a big way.

Elf and safety mate ! Can't risk hurting the dog with a heavy envelope ! :laughing-rolling:

They took litter bins away in some towns years ago, then put them back again because of all the litter dropped ! Somebody didn't think that one through very well :angry-banghead:

Good idea ,the models are little works of art, do many people on this forum do them though.

I've been assembling this model on and off, so here are a few shots.

First off, there are various skulls, etc. hanging off the dragon. I didn't want these, I just wanted a wild Zombie Dragon, not a "tamed war beast." Hence, I also chose the Terrorgheist option without the saddle, which is moulded in and would be impossible to remove from that particular part. Luckily its one of the option parts.

The rest are just a straight forward assembly. It's an involved kit, so you need to pay close attention to the instructions.

Next problem is the wings. I chose the Terrorgheist option, as it didn't have the saddle, but the wings are upright, and the skin is not hanging naturally.

Image

The only option is to re-position the wings so they are straight out with the skin sagging down. I think that's a better pose anyway. With hindsight, I might have been able to mix some parts from the Zombie dragon version to get a better pose, without having to resort to butchery. However....... The Terrorgheist parts are well and truly glued in place, and not coming off, so it's out with the knife !! More of this saga soon :D

Here is the pose I wanted on the wings. It is straight out, with the skin hanging down fairly naturally. You can compare it with the photo on the back of the box which doesn't look right realistic to me.

Image

It involved a fair bit of brutality at the wing joint !! Sprue cutters and a knife managed to get the wing to fit, sort of...... I probably should have pinned I for extra strength, and may do yet.

Image

The worst of the gap was roughly filled with Tamiya filler. This eats into the plastic slightly, so hopefully will give a stronger join.

Image

Finally, the surface was sculpted in with Green Stuff. That is very easy to work. It sticks well to the plastic, but doesn't stick to your tools as long as you keep them wet.

Image

Now it needs a light spray with primer to see how it really looks

Thanks Steve. The other side seems to fit a bit better, so shouldn't need quite so much brutality !
