Mamluk bust Ca 1500 - Arrggghhhhhhhh !

Postby Mark » Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:50 pm

I was painting a bust of a Mamluk last night (a Verlinden kit) and quite happily applying a basic darkish flesh colour to the face, followed by a first highlight and second highlight. It looked pretty good, even though I say it myself. However, when I looked at it this morning, it was awful. The highlight was far too bright, and the colours didn't really match at all.

The motto of the story, paint figures under daylight light !

Grrrrrr - now I've got to go over it with a dark flesh and start again !
Cheers

Your Mamluk sounds like he got a sun burn under the spotlight.
Does he look medium-rare or well-done coocked?

It was more a case of medium rare, with highlights of "just seen a ghost !"

So, surveys about Denise's cocktails are right: they might get you blind.

I told you, keep away from them. They're just good enough to be used as fuel propellant for your rockets!

Aye Denises cocktails.

Put hairs on the heels of your feet.

And strip the ones from your chest at the same time.

They put colour in your cheeks as well. Do you think green cheeks suit me ?

So, where's standing your Mamluk now after a month?
Don't tell us he returned to Egypt to get real daylight... and a tan!

Cheers and take care.

P.S.: I'm still waiting for WEM's tins to be delivered for the e-boat. A month they're out of stock now and no hope of being resupplied soon. Groan...

He's still too embarrassed to show his face - he needs another month under the sun bed to get the tan back

Mamluk bust

Postby Mark » Sun Feb 20, 2011 11:01 pm

I've finally managed to get some daylight modelling time. I've just about finished the face. Not happy with the eyes, but he has got them virtually closed, and it's the best I can manage with them being very recessed.

This is all Games Workshop acrylic paints. All comments welcomed.

Mamluk warrior Ca. 1500 : Finished !

Postby Mark » Sat Jul 30, 2011 5:17 pm

This little chap is finished at last. I'm quite pleased with the way he came out. Much better than my last attempt at a bust.

Nice mate, what is the size of the chap :?:

Have a K for perseverance and a job well done. I don't think the lady of the house will have a problem where you show case it. :)

Thanks for the compliment guys. I did enjoy this one. He is 200mm scale, and the bust is about 90mm high.
