Thanks for the tips and advice ;) :)
I was thinking of making a stand with skulls and dirt and wanted to dirty up the feet. I did do a black wash test on the small plate but it went dull so that also received another chrome coat
I think a black wash would bring out the detail but a clear coat has to be added first but this also dulls the colour and shine. Pin wash would take forever.
still have a ways to go yet so will give it more thought

It's all trial and error, that's how we all learn.

The pitting can be done via using a piece of plastic card with small pin holes in. Then you just spray through the holes and you should ended up with small pitting look.

But I would leave it the way you have it and do what you say build a base and just add some dry brushing to the feet and lower leg areas.

I find that when I do a wash I mix my paint with Klear this way the paint stays a gloss look.

This might help with the look I was on about.

The metal is more pited. And the panel lines are highlighted.

thanks for the link, have you seen the Hot-toys 1/4 scale
I know what you mean about the pitting and it does add to the finish. I have a similar finish by accident from using 2000 grit wet n dry and sanding and polishing sticks. I agree it looks much better that way mustang, I didn't want it to look like it just fell off the production line so i,m happy with the finish so far :) I was thinking of buying a broken/un-boxed figure to do a factory version from the waste up like in salvation hanging from the half circle stand.... maybe in the future

Lower jaw, upper arms, hip and spine and the lower legs had a few light coats of chrome today.
Weather has been kind and provided plenty of warm sunshine :happy-smileyflower:
The chrome goes on well and less is more If you want the very shiny chrome look but the thinner the coat the easier it rubs off at the slightest touch... unless clear coated. I have gone for a thicker coat and still think it will be better clear coated so i can dirty him up a little but you do loose some of the chrome shine but that should be ok, this is a fighting machine not a Hot rod :)
Parts were gently buffed with an old t/shirt ready for clear

I love this thread, excellent work and well worth a 'K'! I use Alclad chrome for hydraulic rams and pistons, brilliant stuff!! :D

Thanks guys for looking in and thank you for your kind comments and K,s :)
The black base coat didn't get much sanding so the top alclad coats are not as shiny a smooth as could be but i like the finish as it gives a much more real appearance to the Terminator. I watched Salvation again last night with my son Shane, what a great film. I like the part where they are trapped in the Terminator assembly area of the factory and various Terminators are hanging from the assembly line, would love to do another Robot hanging from the support jig  bit like the Hot-toys version.

gee, I've just discovered your arnie model casp,
great work so far, really, just hope you'll replace all visible screws with the hex variety - especially the ones on the skull - that would remove the last toy traces...

Hi BA and thanks for looking in :D
I really would like to do more to this but will need to get more Alclad Chrome first. I put the chrome into a airbrush siphon fed bottle and it all evaporated :angry-banghead:
Your right about the screws mate they do ruin the overall look. Some of the pistons would look better replaced, i was thinking of radio aerials

Its been ages since I started this and its been stuck on the shelf. The weather has been awesome today so I was able to use the Alclad chrome in the garden
I gave the parts a few coats and as they dry very quickly i was able to re-coat and finish them off. I will be going over the whole terminator again lightly when its fully assembled.
The alclad rubs off very easy so you have to handle with care or clear coat the parts.
now all I have to do is remember how it came apart   :)

thanks Mark :)
the finish is just what i wanted, I didn't want it all shinny like the Hot Toys 1/4 scale figure. I want him to look like he,s bin through the wars so oil stains etc will be added later
got some parts back together, need to do the pistons now.

Finally finished the Alclad chrome and clear coat and assembled it ready to add to a stand.
My first thought was to attach the figure to the stand through the feet but its a little top heavy, hopefully tightening up the screws will hold the figure upright.
I,m really happy how the paint came out, much better than the shiny hot toys finish in my opinion. I will try a pin wash in some areas and maybe some oil or grease  and I also need to do the teeth. (any tips welcome)
shame about the screw holes but they don't ruin the piece as most are on the back
