Han Solo costume for Feel the Force

Postby royjess » Fri Mar 27, 2015 3:32 pm

Jess and I attended the very first feel the force event two years ago. It started off as a Star Wars event for disable people. http://peterborough.feeltheforceday.com/

Here is a you tube video of last years event which extend into TV and films. Jess and I both can be seen 53 seconds in and Jess again 1.47 seconds in.

This year Jess and I decided to go dressed up. I'm going as Han Solo and Jess has two Princess Leia outfits (ANH and Slave).

These outfits all arrived yesterday. I had to shorten my sleeves and trousers to fit.

The holster/utility belt was in-accurate so I had to correct that. The rear and front buckles where both in the wrong place, so I had to swap these around. The small pouch next to the droid clip was in the wrong place and I had to remove this and re-sew it back in place.

Image

I'm going to need to make/modify some parts to make accessories for the belt. This will be the main focus on this dairy build. These items will be Blaster, power cells, small green bottle and droid caller.

In the mean time, here are some photos of the costume.

Where did you get the belt from, could tell them it's wrong so they can fix next batch looks good though. Looks like everyone enjoyed feel the force.

Thanks Steve. Yes we all enjoyed the Feel the Force events.

I e-mailed Jedi-robe who I purchased the costume from. This is there reply

Hello Roy and thank you for your message.

It is great to hear that you are happy with the costume. I am sure that you will have a wonderful time wearing it.

Thank you so much for the feedback on the holster/belt. I have forwarded your comments to our team and we will discuss them and see how we can improve.
I wish you good luck with the blaster. It sounds like a really cool idea.

And yes, it is Pam Rose next to Ken Coombs on the flyer. This picture was taken on one of our yearly 'fun events' where we collect donations for Great Ormond Street (a childrens hospital in London)

May the Force be with you.

Cheers,
Victoria - Jedi-Robe.com

I've seen photos of people wearing this belt on the web back to front due to the buckle being on the wrong side

I know Pam Rose (Leesub Sirlin - Star Wars episode 4 ANH) and also Alan Flyng (Storm trooper ESB, ROTJ and imperial star destroyer officer ROTJ)

Roy :D

Just a quick update.

In addition to the utility belt/holster, Hans also wears a two prong three hole black belt. I can only find these in america for around £20 plus £40 P&P :o

So I brought a cheap two holed two prong belt of Ebay and I used a belt puncher to punch in the third hole.

The first photo showing the belt with the third hole punched on the right hand side of the belt but the left side yet to be done.

One of the items contained in the utility belt/holster was an original green sparklet soda bottle. I couldn't find a green one but a cheap alternative was for me to purchase a ISI Cream Soda Charger and paint it green. I did 8 drops of Vallejo olive green to 1 drop of Vallejo white.

Today I got to try out my new airbrush (H&S Silverline Evolution).

The ISI soda charger bottle is such a tight fit inside the belt, so I decided to coat it with a clear car lacquer/gloss to ensure that the paint don't scrap off again. I'm going to give it a month maybe 3 to be on the safe side for the paint to set hard before I fit it into the belt. I might need to add some faller lube to assisted with it into the belt.

I also used etch car primer to ensure a good adhesion of the paint.

Actually it really depend which which outfit you are going for. My buckles were easily swapped around due to these having screw type studs.

For ANH and ROTJ outfits these had to be swapped around but for is correct for ESB.

My toy Han Solo Blaster arrived from America. It looks like a toy and need modifying to look like an authentic movie prop.

The nozzle needed to be modified by drilling out the holes and I pulled out the end.

More updates on the blaster coming soon.

Today I primed the blaster with car primer and will leave it 24 to harden. I've gone for Auto paints as I need the paint to be more durable than your typical airbrush paint.

Thanks Casper.

Don't worry, I didn't pay $400 for the holster. I got mine from Jedi-robe. http://www.jedi-robe.com/90,star_wars_c ... tumes.html

I only posted the website to show the comparison in the blasters and holsters between the films. Can you spot the difference in the holsters?

At first they all look identical, but take a closer look at the buckles.

ANA has the hexagon buckle at the front and the rectangle one at the back.
ESB has the rectangle buckle at the front and the hexagon at the back.
ROTJ has a hexagon buckle at both the front and back.

Talking about blasters. I've given mine a coat of metallic black car paint and waiting for this to dry (24 hours) before I add detailing.

It's now beginning to look more like the real thing as oppose to a toy.

The blaster has had detail added and then a few coats of Simoniz car clear lacquer. As a precautionary measure even though the lacquer dries within 15 minutes, it's still soft, so I allowed 3 days for it to dry before I handled the blaster and the lacquer will continue to harden over the next 3 months. So I will still be careful with handling the blaster and I won't place it into the holster belt until around mid July.

Thank you to everyone for your kinds comments. Yes the blaster now looks like it's made from heavy metal which keeps fooling me. The blaster now looks a lot heavier than it really is. Each time I go to pick it up, I'm expecting it to be heavy and forget that it is really light as a feather.

My droid caller kit arrived today. This will need painting and gluing together. Again for robustness I will use car spray paint to paint it. I included a £1 coin for size.

Image

The original one used in the film was an old Kobold camera flash gun handle. Even the one arrived today has the word "Kobold" scribe into the side of the handle.

The droid caller glued together, I've left one part to fit after painting.

All now ready to paint.

Is this the thing 3po uses when he's locked in the control room or what the Jawa use at Lukes farm :?: :ugeek:

The droid caller I'm building is the one that is worn on Han Solo's utility belt. Yes the Jawas did had them and so did Luke also have one too http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Caller

The droid caller can be seen on the Left side (your right) of Han's belt in the next image near his left wrist/forearm.

I hope this helps.
