Yet another sic-fi project for my son Shane and I haven't finished the Terminator yet   I have the Alclad but my Airbrush is spitting paint
Anyway this is just a repaint of a coin bank my son had as a gift that I have had my eye on it for a while :shifty:
sorry but the first couple of photos didn't turn out too good

The arms were more difficult to remove so i cut them off with a blade, these will be glued back later
Image

There is a coin slot on the top that needed filling so i used some styrene sheets stuck together and glued that in place and left it to cure

This was then filled with Tamiya plastic putty and sanded back when dry
Image

All parts were lightly sanded to get a key for the paint and then washed and dried, then all parts were undercoated grey apart from the gun that comes in two parts.Image

Bit late now.

But you could have tried hot water poured into the arm sockets, it might have softened the plastic so you could have pulled the arms out.

But anyway back to the idea, I like it it will be a interesting project.

Hi mustang :) thanks for looking in :D
I did try hot water mate but the plastic is rather brittle but some Vaseline did the job eventually and later i trimmed it to help get it back in later. The arms just wouldn't budge

The helmet had four false plastic lights so i cut and drilled them out to 2mm in order to fit LED,s after final paint

Before applying the Humbrol Olive Drab (not Khaki olive drab) I masked up the areas not to be painted and gave the parts a couple of coats of Hairspray

About 2 hours later after my afternoon nap i started to add water to the areas that were to be weathered and started to chip at the paint with a stiff brush and scotch-brite pads
The paint was difficult to get working at first and required a lot of water to get it to lift off the aluminium undercoat. I did get a few spots of blue where i overdid the rubbing but these can be touched up later
Image

A little more work and it should look ok

Masking tape removed and some flat black added to the skin suit

Some of the paint scratches and chips had Vallejo silver along the edges to give hopefully give some depth, you have to be very careful not to overdo it

Next up a satin clear coat :)

Well i tried the satin clear coat but couldn't get the pin-wash to flow very well  maybe i should try a clear gloss then add a wash to tone it down a little
I did some more of the black on the arms and body but there are still some areas to finish off.

I also removed the mask from the visor

Dry fit to see how it looks so far :D

I want to give the black body suit a weathered look but not sure how to go about it
I was thinking of dry brushing some black gloss or satin on to the raised areas, any suggestions guys :)

Try dry brushing a dark grey to give some highlights. I did that one the gloves of the Cavalier and the YZR-M1. The eye is easily tricked, and it still looks black, but with a bit more texture/contrast.
Cheers

Thanks for the tip Mark, will try that :)
Ialso want to try a wash so would you recommend a clear gloss coat and would this tone down after as i don't really want a glossy look to the armour
cheers for looking in :)

I think the only way a wash will work is if you paint the whole armour a dark grey and then use a black wash. I don't think playing with gloss and matt finishes will be very successful, but I could be wrong....... There's nothing wrong with going for a dark grey with a black wash and slightly lighter grey highlights. In fact, black things rarely actually look jet black in real life. Most 'black' things look grey or a dark colour of some sort (probably lots of different colours.)

Try taking a photo of something that is black and looking at it carefully, possibly with the background blanked out.
Cheers

Hi Mark
I was only going to do a wash over the green body armour not the black skin suit areas to add some grime or dirt. I think the dark grey for the black area is a great idea but will try on some scrap first, thanks for your help mate.
Hi steve and thanks for looking in :)
I kept the visor masked up as the surface is nice and smooth, it has good colour but i was thinking of adding gold leaf, not sure if it will work but its worth a try. The visor in the game has a honeycome pattern but that will be difficult to reproduce
I may try doing some parts in gold leaf and some left as is, will decide later when i start to apply it.

Sorry, misunderstood you on that one. Yes, I'd give it a light coat of clear gloss before adding a wash.
You can always give it a final coat of satin or mat when you've finished.

How about fishnet stockings as a mask to reproduce a honeycomb effect ? Haven't played the game, so not quite sure what you're aiming for.
Cheers

Hi Mark :)
My fault, I didn't explain it correctly
The honeycomb visor may be too difficult to do so I will just try the gold leaf and see how it looks. Thanks for the tip for the wash mate will try that. ;)
