Plodding along with this one. The main vehicle is finished now, so on to a bit of weathering. It's going to be very subtle, so it may not show up in the photos.

I've faded the yellow a bit using the oil dot technique. I used Ammo Oilbrushers, Ochre and dusty earth. Just apply a few random dots, and brush out with a flat brush moistened with turps.

I need to add a wash as well, to bring out the weld detail and the detail in the wheels. I'm going to go back to a traditional oil and turps, using a medium brown. When I'm happy, it will be left for a couple of weeks for the oils to dry out well, then a gloss clear to apply the decals to, and finally and matt clear to finish off.

The decals will be print it yourself. I've downloaded a US stencil style font (loads free on the net) and printed off something suitable.

I was having a bit of writer's block over this. Wasn't quite sure where to go after the yellow was applied. However, I think I'm back in the groove again.

OK, let's start some weathering.

I used some Ammo Oilbrushers, a raw umber oil wash and a black oil wash. This is all that I used (plus a brush and some cotton buds).

That's probably about it. I was to keep it very light as it's essentially a road vehicle. Now it will get left for a couple of weeks to dry off properly, then the decals will go on.

Decals on! The DIY decals worked well. Couple of down sides. It's quite wasteful on paper as the printer leaves large margins. Couldn't work out how to reduce them on the Mac. The printer driver isn't very flexible. The decals seem to take a long time to soak, and needed a good slide to get moving. Possibly because I cut them from the sheet with a knife, rather than scissors. That may have left a burred edge on the trimmed decal.

Anyway, it went smoothly. I printed them with an ink jet printer, then sealed them with Micro Scale liquid decal film. Just brushed on, and all the brush marks disappear as it dries. They seem to respond well to Micro Scale decal solutions too.

The decal paper has the backing paper, adhesive and carrier film. You print on the with an ink jet printer, then seal with liquid decal film. That stops the water making the ink run. Finally, just use like normal decals. Hope that explains it clearly.
