1:65 Vasa from DeAgostini!

Postby tom1992 » Wed Mar 07, 2018 9:24 pm

Just seen a small snippet film from Dea Modelspace on Instagram.... Looks like they're going to launch a new model ship partwork. Looks like it's the Vasa. :D don't know any details yet but it's likely to be the same scale as the Victory and Soverign, 1:84
Watch this space!

Nope - it will be 1/65 scale. This was originally going to be released last November, but it keeps getting put back. Now imminent any day - the Modelspace forum just had a competition to win the Wasa/Vasa (it's a Swedish pronunciation thing) book by Fred Hocker, which ended yesterday. This was to precede the model launch, as the winner has to provide their subscription number as a condition of getting the prize. See here http://forum.model-space.co.uk/default. ... pics&f=543 .

Was considering doing this one - I have fond memories of building the Airfix one as a boy (how many years ago  ).

Oh even better! "Biggest is always best!" Although it'll be a shame not to compare scales with the other ships. :( I'm definitely getting this beast! I also have fond memories of building the airfix model.... and also having it De-masted for me and subsequently shot to bits with my air rifle.... :shifty: :laughing-rolling:

Tom.

It's now available at £34.99 a month for 24 months, or £69.99 a month for 12 months. With a special offer at the moment - first pack only £9.99. https://www.model-space.com/gb/build-the-vasa.html

That's it - I'm in. Just downloaded the first 4 packs of instructions, and have now received my order confirmation.

Hi David. Glad you're on board! :D which subscription are you going for?
I've also been unable to resist temptation and have decided to subscribe too. What I can't decide on is either the 12 or 24 month!?  what do you guys think?? :?:
Cheers,
Tom.

Easy choice - first month is only £9.99, so you save £24.99 on the 24 month subscription, but you save a whopping £60 on the 12 month subscription. I went for the 12 month one !

Tom, (and anyone else who downloaded the instructions already). Be aware that the instructions are wrong in respect of the colour the gun carriages were painted. Instructions state red, but apparently, they were black - receipt for lampblack for use on gun carriages has just come to light. They already re-uploaded pictures in the official build.

Wow Guys. :D :D
Although not a ship man I read the link provided & was stunned by the incredible detail.
Best of luck to those who are going to build it, I wish I had the space available . :angelic-sunshine: :angelic-sunshine:

Hi John, thanks for your comment! In truth.... I don't have the space either!! :shifty: for this, the victory, the sovereign.... or any of the others for that matter! :laughing-rolling: SWMBO doesn't know yet so I have all my limbs intact!

Thanks for the heads-up Dave! I shall amend my instructions.
Cheers,
Tom.

Came home this evening to find a large box had just been delivered from Modelspace. The first pack of the Vasa - I hadn't expected this so soon - the Modelspace forum was quoting delivery from the end of March, and I had expected a bit of time to get on with the Endeavour and the Halcon. It is very obviously MUCH smaller than the Bretagne - the length is only a little less, but the beam is only about half. If they had done it in 1/84 scale it would be tiny. Build diary coming soon.

Hi guys!

My first Wasa pack has also just arrived! :D
Just like David it was surprisingly rapid! once I've opened it and started putting it together I'll open up a build diary. In my next post I shall pop in a link to my build diary here. If Mark would kindly make a topic for the Wasa in the 'ships' section that'll be great. (Thanks Mark. :) )
Cheers,
Tom.

No worries, give me a day or two. Feel free to start your diary under the other ships section - I can always move it.
Cheers

I've now got 3 of these bad boys to do! I've collected all the issues for the Victory and the Sovereign o.t.S which are both at the hull planking stage and now I have this one that I'm collecting issues for! And that's just sailing warships! I've got 3 more modern battleships that I've also collected issues for!! :? :laughing-rolling:
Cheers,
Tom.

Just ordered this from Modelspace! As far as I have seen on the instructions it looks like a challenging build, equal to Victory in difficulty (or even more difficult!)

So, after finishing Victory, currently I have 3 ship builds in progress: USS Constitution, La Bretagne (from France) and Vasa.
Built: Ford Shelby Mustang, F1 Red Bull RB7, Bismarck, RC Spitfire, Millennium Falcon
Currently building: R2D2, USS Constitution, La Bretagne, Jaguar E-Type, McLaren MP4-4
Stashed: Hachette Mallard, Altaya Pacific 231, IJN Akagi

Welcome to the club mate!

The most awkward part of any wooden ship model for me is the hull planking. Having to bend the strips round the bow and transom sections particularly. The advantage of this model and the S.o.t.S is that the transom is flat for most of the hull so less agro! The rest of it looks ok to me but there are few awkward looking sections. Well have to see if Artesina Latina have learned from their mistakes!
Cheers,
Tom.
