My Stuka build

Postby Experten » Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:54 pm

Hi All,

I have attached a few pictures of my Stuka. I started 9 months ago, and am on issue 79. The wing will be ribbed out by issue 83, then it is on to framing I'd imagine. I am not building it in sequence, having passed over many of the issues that contain small or easily damaged parts. I'll get back to these when it calls to install them. I am having a blast with the kit, and I am pretty sure I have one of the very few, if not the only one, in America.

oops! The files are too big. I'll have to wait til the wife gets home to have her show me how to resize them. (she's the brains in the outfit!)

In light of another superb Stuka build diary I think that, We, the members of the board demand a UK release.

I believe that if a petiton gets a certian number of supporters backing it on the Number 10 Goverment website it has to be debated in UK Parliament.

So anyone got the web address to set up a petition so our MP's can call upon Hachette to release the Stuka in the UK :D

And I'm sure we can come up with some 'bungs' to persuade the MPs to allow the passage of the bill

Were the box sections of the tail feathers in one piece or fours sides stuck together?

Are you going to skin the plane? Or leave it as it is?

Thanks everyone! It has been a blast so far, and I can't wait to see what is slated once the wings are completed.

Chill, The stabilizers are built around 3 spars (forward, mid, and aft) that have the ribs slotted into them. This is all covered with a single piece of lattice framework "skin". I don't know if I am going to skin it or what. I think it would look great with all the innards showing, but I also love the look of the covered aircraft. I should have bought 2 of them. ( i think my wife would have shot me if I had though!)

Eric, it weighs about 6 pounds right now. I have about 8 pounds in leftover fret.

What is a "K"? (american ignorance....)

Hi

thanks for the info on the build.

A 'K' is awarded to people who post build pictures or advice.

Once you posted five times you can award K to people as you deem fit.

You click on the green thumbs up symbol underneath the poster you want to give ' K' (or karma)too.

Equally if someone posts something you disagree with etc you click on the red thumbs down symbol and that gives the poster negative karma.

SO in you fab pictures we have given you a big resounding Thumbs up!

And we are all so jealous you have a super Stuka build. As we are all desperate in the UK to get our mitts on it!

Theres a member on here - Snapdragon- who is building this also as he has set up a supply chain to get the Stuka from Europe

So we now have the beginning of a Stuka Squadron!! Speaking of Snapdragon, we are due an update from his build. Although he isnt as far into his build as you are.

And I think you should have parts of the plane skinned to show the full detail of your build.

Look forward to your next update mate.

Cheers

Here are the latest pics of my build. The wings are basically complete except for skinning. There is obviously some painting that needs to be done. The fuel tanks are in place, but slide easily in and out. The wing root fillets fit perfectly, and the wings slide on and off easily. The pins used to join the 2 wing sections together are a royal pain in the ass, and leave the outer section of wing quits loose which results in the dihedral being a bit less than it should be.

very cool!! I'll probably/maybe skin only one side...
I hate the thought of all the work hidden away under the skin -
especially as I would have many planes in mind which are much prettier to look at than the stuka...
