Build of the Year 2020 or not?

Postby Mark » Tue Dec 03, 2019 5:41 pm

Hi team!! This year's Build of the Year competition is on the home straight. I hope you're enjoying watching the builds. There are some great entries.

Question time. Do you want to have another BotY comp in 2020, or would you prefer to have a break and run it again in 2021?

Depending on the feedback, I'll announce whether the comp will be run again next year in a couple of weeks.

I intend to keep the rules the same as this year, but feel free to discuss below.
Cheers
Mark

As we have 1 year, maybe more than one entry could be allowed?

I decided to make it only one model allowed for a couple of reasons. Having two or more entires dilutes your chances of winning the comp. It also levels the playing field for fast builders against slow builders. It may also inspire modellers to put in that extra bit of effort to build a really cracking model.

It takes me a year to do a starter kit :laughing-rolling:
One kit is better but are we restricted to cost and size or can we build anything?

Might go big for the next one :laughing-rolling: choice of 1/24 Tiffy or Hellcat!

Not a fast builder myself but should be fun!

It is never quiet here in Gods own country!

I have been busy with a certain Japanese Partwork. I didn't want to log the build as there is a lot of repetition and I want to get it done before Christmas so I can concentrate on the 12 day build. It is very close to being finished and I will post photos.

The Ferdinand is waiting for some spare parts as a couple of major ones have somehow gone AWOL. I might, in January, buy another kit and use it for spares. It will probably be cheaper and easier than to sort out replacement sprues from Amusing Hobby!

If there is another BOTY then I think it will be either the Tiffy or the Hellcat in FAA livery!

There is also ZM's Hs129 and a couple of full interior tanks available too!

I might just go for Trumpeter's 1/16 Panthers. They are supposed to be very nice kits!

OK, I think I will run the BotY again next year.

Same rules as last year. Anything goes. However, I'm going to shift the dates slightly, and run it from 1st Jan 2020, until 31st Jan 2021. 13 months, and avoids a mad rush to finish a model over the Christmas period.

Any kit, any subject, any scale, and any aftermarket accessories you like. With or without a diorama, as you wish. You must start it on or after the 1st Jan 2020, and the model must be completed and final pictures posted by 31st Jan 2021.

Only 1 entry per person. Post your build diary in the competition section. Start with a picture of the un-started kit, along with a brief description of what your intentions are.

The winner will be selected by a vote in Feb 2021.
Cheers

Was looking at a review of Trumpeter's big 1/16 Panthers last night. They are temping for this competition, but I also need to know what extras is available to possibly enhance areas!

I may just stick with either the Tiffy or the Hellcat. There are some nice extras available for the Tiffy including metal cannon shells and links and allsorts! The Hellcat still is a bit of a mystery to me as regarding detail, but Eduard seems to have most of it covered!
