Johnb's MP4

Postby John b » Fri Aug 16, 2019 8:24 pm

Hi Guys,

long time no speak.

Hope you are all well?

Was shocked to read the other day of the passing of Baby Astons , very sad.

Right down to business.

I have finally dug out this kit that I bought 2 years ago and decided to start it.

So wish me luck and I'll be scanning everyone else's builds for modding ideas and any tips to ease this project.

Photos to come as progress continues.

Later!

Hey John :D
glad to hear you can finally start your MP44, can't wait to follow your progress. I really need to finish mine but sadly haven't the space at the moment.

Had a bit of bench time today, as i had done some D.I.Y. this morning thought I'd treat myself!!

Have done the front wing and nose pod brake caliper and wheels from the first 3 issues and about to open pack no 4!

Took the idea from Chill and drilled out the holes!

and filled the edge and coloured it in with pencil, looks good in the "flesh"

Also copied Chill with the caliper, smoke wash and clean

Going to fit scrubbed tyres!

Although the rubber that comes off them could be "stuck" back on to look like marble pick up from a race finish, thoughts?

That's all I got at the moment.

I have also ordered the M1.0 bolts, washers and nuts so I can do the wires on the discs as well, just not sure of the size required!
Will post results as soon as I can.

Till next time modellers :greetings-cya:

Hi John
great start :)
I also had an interesting day doing DIY :tools-hammerdrill: I finished the tiling in the bathroom, not my favourite thing to do :snooty: .
I seem to remember someone using the rubber to give the tyres the used melted look  it looked pretty good, will see if I can find the photo.

Nice find John, I didn't know they stocked them. Bit expensive but if you include shipping and possible import tax its about right. :o

Hi all,

Well had a great day today, went to the Aston Martin factory for an open day and saw a lot of beautiful machines and even a MP4/12C McLaren!!

Any way as promised, photos of the monocoque so far.

I have added the left front wishbones and wheel hub since my last post.

Had a spare few hours yesterday evening while SWMBO was watching Bake Off so I thought I'd get the water slide decals out that came with the model.

front logo.jpg
After fitting the "L" I realised that it overhangs on to the main body so will wait it i can marry them up before I add the "b"!

Looks good I think

I think its about 3mm of the top of the b that sits on the main cover john if I remember  shame really but its not too difficult to do. You get a few spare letters if you damage one like I did a couple of times. The decals are nice to use and the guide is essential to get them all lined up.
nice work john :)

Cheers Casp!

The L is folded over so it will be fine when I come to do it eventually.

Nothing Microsol/microset can cure!
