Here is a tip for cutting small parts out of brass plate.

Great tip Mike. For those that haven't/can't open the attachment, in a nut shell, sandwich the brass plate between two layers of wood. Cut out the part with a fret saw or scroll saw. Then drop the parts in a solvent to dissolve the glue. Tidy up and done. The attachment describes it in much better detail though.
