Next chapter:
The first tracks are placed, and here you can see how the locos will reach the turntable

Image

The area got a grey "grit"-look, the turntable is built in, and the roundhouse got it's final place

Image

A lok from behind - in the background on the right hand side you can see the cinder cavern

The second track to the turntable is finished; it's the connection to the loco factory which was built on the layout some years ago

Image

Image

An overview of the area. On the right hand side the container terminal found a new place. Before that it was placed at the factory area, but it was really closely. Now it's beside a street (but this part of the area will change a bit soon, because I have more plans in my head)

Image

Image

Image

Also an old freight shed found a new place on this area. During building the new part of the layout the old part is going to be "rebuilt". Some buildings there changed places, there are new streets there, and everything gets a bit more place. Pics of these changes will be posted in another topic soon.

The engine shed also needs some more details, and a canteen...

At the backside of the roundhouse is a country road, and the service station which also was placed on the old part of the layout (in the middle of the town) before found a new place here.

Next step: the roundhouse, and also the office building and canteen, got lights: I use LED-stripes for that which are fixed on the inside of the roof. They are only on 12 V so they are not too light.

Wow.

Just looking at all the photos, it looks excellent work.

What's the scale and how large is your layout,?

I have loads of my dads old N gauge. I will never get around to using it as I have to many other hobbies that take up my time would love to have had a large layout like that.

Well done K

The scale is H0 (1:87), and the old part of the layout is 4,50 x 2,50 meters. The new part with the engine shed is 1,80 x 1,75 m. The beginning was in 1968, with just two circles which my dad built. The first years the layout was built up around christmas and was taken away two months later. In 1973 my dad decided to use the attic for the layout. After that it became bigger and bigger... In the late 1980s my brother and I built in a transfer table for electric locos, and a factory area was built. The engine shed is the last step, because the room in the attic is full now

Thank you.
You can find many pics in my thread "Old german railway" :)
And there are some more threads of the layout and details, like "Accessories", "Special coaches and freight wagens", "Railway model cars", "Model weathering" and a few more.

I found this nice "Vollmer" model, a small engine shed for a 'Köf' or small shunting loco, and I thought it could be a nice thing for the new area

Image

The pieces looked very "plastic like", so I weathered the model a bit

Such a big engine shed has to get away the cinder, and needs a possibility to transport material from one place to an other. So I decided to build in a light railway with some tracks from the turntable to the loco fabrication.
Of course, also these pieces are all weathered, because the tracks and also the lorries have to look "used"

The track where the grey locos are placed will become the area for the coaling station (which isn't finish now)
