Re-creating the layout

Postby 70'sdreamer » Thu Jul 17, 2014 6:09 pm

As I mentioned in the 'Engine shed' topic, I re-create some parts of the old layout. Because of the new part I have the chance to take some buildings, cars, figures and place them better.
There's still much work to do, but here are some of the changes that are finished until now.

Some cars, trucks and figures are removed...

That's how the old part looked for the last 20 years. The joinery already got a new place for a first try.
Image

I decided to take all buildings and the lake off to replace it in a -hopefully- better way.

The lake is re-placed, a bit on another place to get more free space for the farm, but also the camping area and the clothing-optional-area.
Image

The camping area looks a bit more 'straighten' now.
Image

The joinery got a new place, so new streets can be mounted, and there's a nice garden there now.
Image

Image

Image

First step is done... But the farm still doesn't look the way I want.

Next step: The farm figures are all removed. The farm building also got a new place, a bit more in the corner.
Image

New grass, some wheel marks of the tractor, and the figures have much more space now.

Because of re-placing some buildings I got some free space in the corner of the layout, to place something new.
I learned this is a family-forum, so I can't show any details, but only a censored picture.

At the moment I "re-create" the layout on the bottom side. After buying 4 new transformers and trying to connect them I recognized that something is wrong in my layout electricity. I couldn't find the main fault so I decided to rewire all signals, switches and lights.
Will take some weeks lying on my back laying tracks I think...

This is the result of the modernisation in the electric part: Five new transformers (there were four before). The fifth one is only for the engine shed area and shunting area, so a train can ride on the track during shunting. This wasn't possible before.

Self-made switches for the track electricity of the travelling platform

The desk for the cranes

The side desk for the industry area

The switch for the turntable. The black one is for the track electricity of the turntable track, so a loco can be "parked" there
Image

The switches for "special effects". I sadly can't show the detail for one of these because this is a family forum (but I can tell that it's for some "moving figures".
The black switch is for the track electricity of the last part of the track to the turntable, so also there can a loco be "parked"

The next part of the old layout that got a "re-fresh" was the area around the church.
The church stood moretheless "alone" behind a track, with only one scenery, a wedding.

In this pic it's already gone, because I didn't like the situation anymore
Image

In this pic the church is gone but the walks are new already
Image

The "new chruch area" should get a grave yard, so I built some graves...
Image

Here you can see the result
Image

Image

Image

With this scenery I think the whole church area became more realistic
Image

Of course, the wedding also came back

Hi Stefan,

The lighting effects and graves certainly add to the Church :D :D

Thank you. For years there were some trees in front of the saint figure. With re-creating the whole place I thought it would be much nicer to get some place there and have a spotlight on it.

Next part is refreshing the place around the station (doing that at the moment) and the place around the hotel, the small lake with the anglers and the miniature golf. It's cleared already, and I have some ideas how to create it new.

On your pond how about some people plying with radio controlled boats.

That's an idea but the anglers won't be happy about it, and the other lake on my layout is a naturist area, so no good idea to place it there, too. ;)

I decided to "push up" the hotel on my layout a bit, so I got the idea to create some flaggs for the entrance:
