Making my own hand held train controllers

Postby royjess » Sun Jan 25, 2015 10:32 pm

Today I had a go at making my own hand held train controllers.

Here are some of the components.

Image

All constructed on a strip board.

All complete and working. Mine's the red one and Jessica's got the blue one (pink wasn't abvailable so blue was her second choice).

These work either using 16V ac or DC

These were build based on information from this webpage, I decided to build mine on one whole strip board as oppose to several. http://home.iprimus.com.au/nuggles58/Ma ... roller.pdf

Thanks Mark for your interest.

To build them, they cost around half the price of the guagmaster hand helds. Plus I've many spares to repair them or to partially build some more.

It was fun too.

Thanks Casper.

Here are a couple of websites that help me understand electronics, I'll start with the first one as a beginner, but the second one has a lot more info.

I only came across these website just before Xmas and now I'm able to build most electronic circuit providing I've the appropriate plans or instructions. I'm new (only a month now) to building circuit boards but not new to electrics.

I've also recently purchase a Silverline variable solder iron station.
