Hi Casp,

I think Julian had major join problems with the back of the Cat and ended up using filler & having to do a re-spray job.

With the Herald, the plastic looks in a lot better condition than that for the DB5 - probably due to the amount of pressings that the metal moulds have done etc with the DB5.

morning Paul :)
i hope mine comes out as good as julians. He did an excellent job on the joins. in fact the whole car looks amazing.
I was bidding on a 1/8 scale Racing Honda Motorbike the other day but just missed out at the last min. Was thinking of making a trailer like the one i saw in the summer at a classic car show. looked amazing next to the Cat that was towing it.
I have only had a quick look at the Triumph Herald kit. I think i will leave the cat today and start on that. but i really have to sort my car out, work tomorrow night.

I know Aston's

Just wondering if doing it red (after a primer) might hide any mistakes re: it already being a red version ......

red is a bit of a fun to paint:
it's worse in terms of covering than white -
any imperfections (like sanding through the base coat) will show as dark clouds in the red paint - even after several coats of red...
ferrari are using pink as the last coat of primer (really, no joke!!) before starting the red paint job -
this way the red is very vivid and immaculate, yours truly is doing this as well - even if not (any more) a fezza fan...

Would the green also be relatively easy to do - even for someone like me?

if it's not too dark - uni brg (the standard non-metallic variety) wouldn't cover quite well -
so if you go for a metallic paint it'll be easier to handle even if it needs a clear top coat...

There is some "El Chepo" spray paint in a local store....

The green looks too bright for my liking (it's non metallic) any thoughts Aston's ?

if it looks too bright "to your liking" then leave it there -
you should take what you like and not what is on hand...
try googling some jag colours - dr julius posted a link to a fine jag site with all the cats lined up in the available colours -
and if you still don't like them, look for something you like -
go to a local ford or vw subsidiary (yesyes, never mind the cars but they have some fine paints there...),
have a look in their charts and buy the paint...

Hi Aston's,

In theory, is a non metalic green easier, than say the red ?

Cheers Casp,

I think that from memory Halfords won't deliver these types of spray paint !

paul, there are spray match systems that any decent paint shop will use:
you say which original colour you want and they mix and fill it into a 300ml spray can -
the only additional thing you need is base + transparent top coat (which can be any acrylic from a DIY market) -
typically the latter two would be more expensive from the paint specialist...

of course there's still the good old acrylic can in any colour - if you can find a car DIY shop carrying this kind of product -
get there and look what you like...

generally spoken, very dark and very light colours + red are a pig to apply in terms of covering properties,
metallic will cover better as there are colour + metal particles embedded in the paint solution, which adds to it's covering properties -
(also with MICA paints where mineral particles are used instead of the alloy pieces - so MICA makes the "metallic" effect more subtle),
I am using the latter for model cars as the particles in metallic paints look a bit "grainy" on the smaller model surface...

look for the paint of your choice and give it a go -
start with one of the doors I'd suggest - if you mess it up (I mean really, beyond salvage),
I could still send you a door skin from one of my "few" cats and fabricate one from alloy for myself...
maybe I'll do that anyhow
