Postby R2D2 » Tue Jan 27, 2015 12:48 am

Hi all! Decided to start my build on the Revel 1/8th scale E Type Jaguar. These pics are just the contents! I know most of you have probably seen these type of pics before but I thought I would put them up for any new comers to see how much is in the kit!
Main body parts.

Close up of starter motor! Used pins and thin wiring for cables to terminals! Chrome tape for metal fastening ring. Will be putting a metal makers and information plate on later.

Great to see you start.

A tip though -
E Type engine blocks were always gloss black, and the cylinder head was gold.

The only E Types with a silver cylinder head were the lightweights, which had a different wide-angle head.
None had silver blocks.

If you haven't started 'proper' assembly yet, it should just be a simple masking job, and a squirt with some rattle cans.

Nice to watch another cat come to life john.
I personaly think its nice to see box art and contents before the build commences and its only a few photos. Are you going to strip the chrome?
Good start with the starter motor  K on its way :)
I would love to do another jag and try to do a better paint job on the body. That reminds me its still unfinished

Hi all! Thanks for your possitive comments! And Roy! Thanks for the info on the engine colour! Its not glued yet (except engine halves) so I can easily do it the right colours! The colouring at the moment is only a base coat so knowing what the proper colour should be is a great help! The acorn nuts arived to day so I can do the mod to the engine block. Will take pics of my progress within the next couple of days! Casper! Do you mean stripping of the chrome to fix parts or do you mean to paint them instead of the chrome?

Just as a bit of further help...

The moulded ridge running around the engine near the top (shouldn't really be there) denotes the head/block join.
That's where the colour changes from black to silver.
However, the engine front - the separate bit that the water pump, pulleys etc fixes to - is all ally colour OR black.
Jaguar sometimes left it ally, sometimes painted it, but whatever, it was ALL the same colour.
Oil filter was either white, light blue or black.
Some E Type engines had a 90 degree bend on the filter boss so that the filter hung vertically instead of straight out the side.

Hi john
stripping the chrome to re-paint or keeping the chrome as is. I think if i were to build another cat i would try Alclad for the window frames and bumpers

Hi casper! Im going to be using bright chrome bare metal sheets for the window surrounds and other plating! Will be keeping original chrome on all external parts like bumpers etc but will tone down other chrome where not needed or is wrong to original Jaguar. Does this make sense!

If you're careful, even the bumpers can be BMF'd.
It's amazingly flexible stuff.

I built the little Revel McLaren a few years ago and BMF'd the entire body...

That looks pretty impressive! What is the name of the foil used and is it available on the net?
