Looking very nice now...

I know you've already 'corrected' a few colour issues with the engine, but the air filter upper assembly really should be plain old silver paint and not red.
Not chrome, ally or anything else.
The actual cars were painted with silver 'Hammerite' paint.
Only a small point, but it's a big part.
One other thing if you want to be really correct - the oil filter was only ever Tecalemit.... The first E Types (Which this kit represents) were always fitted with Tecalemit oil filters from new.

well now! a big improvement over the first black version -

I need to second roy on the filter, even if i have seen cars with top housing paintwork other than hammerite (not prototypical but supposedly to the owner's liking...) -
as ever john, we can only point in the direction of the real thing - if you put yourself in the place of the real car owner, much is allowed as can be seen on many "restored" cars ;)

btw if and when you correct the drive belt - as you mentioned - make sure it's properly tensioned - the original kit supplied rubber band always seems to be on the loose side...

and also, as a warning to be considered during the build, there is no propeller shaft supplied with the kit, but something needs to be done to "connect" the rear end to the crushbox...

.... You may also notice that the kit has no cooling fan....

Well baby astons and Roy! Talk about being put in my place! Seriously thanks for more further info! Luckely these bits can be put right! I have had a look at pics of real E Types and although your right about the colour of the air filter some restored cars have been painted different colours! Mind you they were all American restored cars so they seem to chose what ever colours they like! I should paint it correct colours as Im going to the trouble of changing from left hand drive to right so I must get it right! Once again thanks for your corrections and I will be putting them right in due course! Actualy I do have a question! Ive noticed there is no steering column to the front wheels! Im presuming there must be one but if so why is it missing from the kit and do I need to make one up?

indeed john, the steering column is another bit that is sadly missing,
just as well some of the cage structure supporting the engine/front suspension...
and not to mention the whole structure of the front mudguards which should be a part of the bonnet -
you might want to look up casp's build, he fabricated a great replica of those...
reminding me of coming back again with regard to the RHD/LHD converion, as I promised...

Hi, a great looking engine now. I'm not an E-Type chap, I'm an Aston man, however having been around British classics for 40+ years I've seen hundreds of Jags. One point, I've never seen a distributor with a "maker's sticker" on it and in any event it's a Lucas component not Champion, they make plugs, so get that off or paint over it in black. Oh and as has been said plug leads are never orange!

I'm sure I will chip in with other comments as you progress. ;) Rich...

I take your point about the distributor and will change it! I fitted an acorn nut to the top of the air filter because the one on there was moulded! Also I have seen real E Types with chrome nuts fitted here! As for the HT leads I know its not practice to fit these normaly but I just wanted to break up the main colours of black and silver! Thanks for your addvice and your comments on my build so far!

Fair enough, I've never seen an E-Type air filter with a nut there but if you've found one then fair play to you... I guess your orange leads could be construed as red and one does get red HT leads.

Seems like Im going to have to eat my words Rich! Ive trawled through E Type pics and all the air filters are either as youv'e shown or like the one below! Looks like Im going to have to mod this as well as the Revel kit one is totaly wrong and also as pointed out the wrong colour! Ho well! You live and learn! Thanks for your info!

I'm not sure what the difference is between the ribbed version (ooh err missus) but I suspect it is a later design cover with the ribs added for strengthening. Out of interest what Series/Year E-Type is the one you are building?
