Hi from a newbie - just starting the kit

Postby johncarey1963jag » Thu Nov 05, 2015 1:51 am

Hi all,
I've been reading all of your postings and following Casper's build with great interest. I purchased an old unassembled kit from an E-Bay auction a while ago and I just opened it up to inventory the parts. My kit is an 1964 vintage Monogram labeled as Kit No. PC98 1098. The body parts are red in this version of the kit and it appears to have come with nearly all of the parts minus these two:
1. item #117 which is the bonnet frame support (left) Which I actually have the remnants or this part
2. item #69 which is labeled as "interior panel" but it is the lower portion of the dash panel which is missing altogether.

Any chance that one of you has a stash a loose parts or leftovers that could help me out? I'd be happy to buy them. If not I will attempt to fabricate replacements. I will post pictures of my progress and ask for your help and advice as I make slow but hopefully steady progress.

By the way I own a 1963 E-Type FHC so I have a ready example to compare to as questions come up.
best regards,

Hi John, welcome to the forum. I'm only a tad jealous of you E type. The real one that is !
I don't have the kit, so can't help you, but I do look forward to watching your build !
Cheers

hello john and a welcome from me as well - always a special pleasure having a new car modeler!!

as I have some 6 or 7 kits and most will end up as something else than monogram/revell has intended, I might have the parts for you -
we can identify those - maybe you can have a look in the instructions and let me know the missing parts # ...

and of course I don't need to say that I second marks comment, your cat is a beautiful example - hope you'll do the model in the same colour!!

Baby_astons,
Thanks for the welcome - I am indeed excited to begin my next E-Type build! :-) I worked for 7 years to complete the full scale car, and I plan to make this one authentic in as many details a I can. It's opalescent silver grey and red colors looks fantastic in person, and yes I plan to match my Monogram 1/8 scale model to the full scale color scheme.

The broken and missing parts are:
1. item #117 which is the bonnet frame support (left) Which I actually have the remnants or this part but not enough o repair it
2. item #69 which is labeled as "interior panel" which is the lower portion of the dash panel which is missing altogether.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer from your parts bin. By the way - where can I see your E-type ? I looked through the E-type forum section and it didn't come up there.
thanks,
John

Some photos of my engine and IRS

Postby johncarey1963jag » Fri Nov 13, 2015 7:27 pm

Here are a few shots of the engine that shows my work so far. I modified the front breather cover because the model's was way too small (pointed out by baby_aston. I also painted the oil canister in the blue-green that is OE from the factory (Tecalmit) and I added the three grooves into the air plenum and painted it with Hammerite silver to match the OE finish for a series 1 car.

Here is the IRS so far. Not too thrilled with my brushwork on the shocks and springs. I am a beginner that's clear! :-)
